Nhl Pick - April 24, 2008
We are 20-10 the past two weeks (+17 units) with our playoff picks. Tonight we have picks in both games. We're taking both favorites because we think they have a very high chance of winning and there's just no other way to go. If you don't like playing big favorites, consider a parlay on the two tonight which will pay approximately +135.
Today we also feature a light-hearted Dog Pound article below, about the NHL's return to primetime prominence.
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Philadelphia at Montreal (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Montreal -185 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 1.6)
The Canadiens got a scare from Boston in round one but finished strong in game seven, winning 5-0. Philadelphia also took seven games to get past Washington. Despite both going to seven, these teams are far from even. Montreal seemed to let down after getting out to a 3-1 lead. When they had to win, they did it in convincing fashion. After that series we expect them to be much more focused here. Philly needed overtime in game seven to squeak out a win. Montreal won all four of the meetings this year between these clubs and they have won 10 of the last 12. Their defense has stepped up as they allowed just 2.1 goals per game to the Bruins. They were 30-15 this season vs. teams that allow 30+ shots on goal per game and 8-2 in their last ten vs. teams scoring 3+ goals per game. We like Montreal to take game one.
Game: Colorado at Detroit (7:35 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Detroit -185 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 1.6)
How can Colorado expect to have any shot here? They went 0-4 vs. the Presidents' Trophy winner this season, managing just two total goals! They were shut out three times. The Avs have beating the Red Wings just twice in 12 games the past three seasons. Yes, the Avs are a better team now. But, are they good enough to go on the road and beat Detroit? No. The Red Wings were 32-12 here this season winning by an average score of 3.2 to 2.2. They are 27-5 the past three seasons at home vs. teams at .500 to .600. Detroit is now 42-15 off a win (15-3 off a road win by 2+ goals) this season. Colorado will again struggle to find the net tonight as Detroit takes game one.
