Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: Phoenix at Detroit (6:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Detroit -220 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 1.8)

The Detroit Redwings are certainly playoff tested having won the Stanley Cup two years ago and advancing to the finals last year. During this stretch they have never dropped two straight at home. They are coming off a loss at home here and that makes this a huge spot for them to rise to the occasion and snatch the next game. This is the first post-season for the Coyotes since 2002 and I would expect the noose to begin to tighten in game four on the road. It will be even more difficult without Shane Doad at 100%, or out of action totally, as he is day to day. Doan was the leading scorer for the Coyotes. Red Wings bounce back, and I'll go with them here.
Game: Phoenix at Detroit (6:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 1 unit on Detroit -1.5 goals +145 (puckline) (risk 1 to win 1.5)
The Detroit Redwings are tough in the playoffs, having the experience and pedigree that has led them to four Stanley Cups in the last 12 years.  The Coyotes have not been to the playoffs since 2002 and have taken a blow in game three with leading scorer Shane Doad knocked out of the game.  His return tonight is doubtful and, at the very best, he will be less than 100%. That opens the door for the Wings to come out strong, having not lost two in a row at home in each of the last two playoffs. I like them to lay it on the Coyotes tonight, and will back them on the puckline.
Game: Pittsburgh at Ottawa (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Pittsburgh -140 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 2.9)

The Pittsburgh Penguins had no need to keep the heat on for 82 games during the regular season after winning the Cup a year ago. This is a team that when they deliver their "A" game, they are tough to beat and I expect them to do so tonight to put the Senators behind the eight ball and down 3-1. The Penguins are 24-6 in their last 30 as a playoff favorite, including 6-0 with a line of -110 to -150. The Senators have stumbled to a 3-13 mark on a single days rest, and I'm going Penguins in this one.

Game: Pittsburgh at Ottawa (7:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 1 unit on Pittsburgh -1.5 goals +200 (puckline) (risk 1 to win 2)
The Penguins cruised through the regular season, but it is now showtime, and money time, for this club. They have a playoff pedigree that shows they get the money when they are supposed to, posting a 24-6 mark as a favorite in the playoffs in their last 30 games. They have won eight of their last 13 playoff wins by two goals or more, and I expect a similar result here. Pittsburgh on the puckline.
Game: New Jersey at Philadelphia (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Philadelphia -110 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
The Flyers have a commanding advantage here with a 2-1 lead in the series and, playing game four at home, where they have won 10 of their last 14. They have owned this New Jersey club this season. They have taken all four games played here and have outscored the Devils 14-7 in the process.  They are also now won three of five on the road. The Devils are just 5-16 in their last 21 on the road and have dropped five straight here in Philly. I'll go with Philadelphia here.
Game: New Jersey at Philadelphia (7:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: 1 unit on Philadelphia -1.5 goals +260 (puckline) (risk 1 to win 2.6)
The Devils have not been very playoff-like on the road, as they are 5-16 in their last 21 taking to the highway. The news coming to Philly is even worse as they have sustained five straight losses here and have been getting outscored by a two to one ratio. That opens the door for a big Philly win, and I'll grab them here on the puckline.
Game: Chicago at Nashville (9:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Chicago -140 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 2.9)
Pick: 2 units on Game Total OVER 5 -125 (risk 2 to win 1.6)
The Chicago Blackhawks remain the odds on favorite to reach the Stanley Cup finals and they certainly got an ugly wakeup call in game one dropping a 4-1 decision to the Predators. They bounced back, as expected, in game two and I expect them to go out tonight and reclaim the home ice advantage with a win. They are off a shutout and the last four road games has seen them let just five pucks slide through the net, or just over one a game. The Predators are just 4-13 in playoff quarterfinal games during the last 17 and 3-11 as a playoff dog. None of the last six games, where they have been featured as a home dog, has stayed under the total while the Blackhawks have played 22-6-1 to the OVER following a win. I like Chicago and the OVER in this one.

Results: 6-1
