Hockey Predictions - April 19, 2009
We hit both of our picks on the Montreal vs. Boston game, but another tough outing on the ice cost us a few units yesterday. Today we are back with three more premium picks.
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: New Jersey at Carolina (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Carolina -130 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.3)
Carolina stole home-ice advantage with a big overtime win in game two to knot the series at a game apiece. They now get a shot at home, where they are 12-1 in their last 13 games. The Devils are gonna have their hands full, as the Hurricanes have really been offensive at home scoring 52 goals in the last 13 on home ice, good for four per contest. The significance here is that the Devils have not scored four goals in any of their last 14 road games, and have scored just 14 times in their last eight on the road, resulting in a 2-6 mark. The momentum is behind the Hurricanes, and so is their red-hot home offense against a Devils’ team that has really struggled to find the net on the road. Carolina takes this one.
Game: Anaheim at San Jose (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Anaheim +220 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 6.6)
San Jose is supposed to win the Stanley Cup. They must get by Anahiem first. We called the upset win in game one as the Ducks won 2-0. They have been a very good team on the road down the stretch, where they won six of their last seven regular-season games. They can win this one too. They are 19-7 in their last 26 games after scoring two goals or less. The Sharks are just the opposite, as they are just 5-17 facing an opponent off of scoring two or less. The Sharks have lost ten of their last fifteen games vs. winning opponents. The odds are too long here so I'm going with the Ducks.
Game: Anaheim at San Jose (10:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Anaheim +1.5 goals -140 (puckline) (risk 3 to win 2.1)
I gave my reasoning for Anaheim on the moneyline, and I also see value on the puckline. Anaheim has been a hot road team. You have to go back 13 regular season games to find the last time the Ducks lost on the road by more than a goal. Over the past three seasons, the Ducks are 34-22 to the puckline vs. teams that outscore their opponents by 0.5+ goals per game. San Jose is 3-8 to the puck line since last year at home revenging a home loss. I'll take the Ducks plus the 1.5 goals.
Results: 4-6
