We rate each pick 1 to 5 units with 5 being the strongest play (read about units).
Risk 1% of your bankroll per unit (never risk more than 5% of total bankroll on any pick).
Game: Atlanta at New York Rangers (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on New York Rangers -210 (risk 2 to win 1)
The Rangers go for the sweep tonight and we think they get it. The 7-0 victory yesterday was a message and a back-breaker for the Thrashers. The message is that Atlanta isn't ready for playoff hockey. Can they muster enough to at least win one here? Not likely. This is a team that is 20-25 since mid-season and 9-21 after giving up 4+ goals in a game. Underdogs revenging a shut out in games between two winning teams are just 21-62 (25%) over the past five seasons. New York ends it here.
Game: Buffalo at New York Islanders (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Buffalo -177 (risk 4 to win 2.3)
The Sabres should easily win this but the risk is a let down. However, they know they cannot let down. They dropped game two to New York and then needed a strong second-period last game to get the one-goal win. The shine has now come off DiPietro's return. Yes, he gives New York a chance in any game, but he wasn't enough last game and New York is now down 2-1. The Islanders have allowed 104 shots already in the first three games and they can't hold down the league's best team for long. New York has not fared well all season at home in expected low scoring games. They are just 1-7 here this season in games with a total of 5.5. They are also just 13-27 the past two seasons at home vs. winning teams. The fact is, they are a sub-.500 team that is averaging just 2.0 goals per game in the playoffs facing a team that averages 3.5 goals per game on the road. Take the Sabres.
Game: Nashville at San Jose (10:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on San Jose -142 (risk 2 to win 1.4)
This is a huge game as the teams either enter game five knotted at 2-2 or San Jose claims a 3-1 lead. San Jose dominated game three after Nashville jumped out to a 1-0 lead. That was it for Nashville as they lost 3-1. Radulov is back in this game which gives Nashville a better chance, but at home, with an opportunity to go up 3-1, we like the Sharks. The Predators are just 8-24 on teh road after a loss the past two seasons. Over that same span, they are 10-28 on the road vs. great offensive teams (3+ goals per game).
