Hockey Betting Pick - April 17, 2010We finished yesterday with two NHL wins as the favorites won outright, but failed to cover on the puckline. We move on to today's action with five more premium NHL picks including a 5-unit play.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Boston Bruins played tough in the opener but dropped a 2-1 decision. There is an old gambling philosophy that says, "The team in need is the team indeed." That certainly applies to the Bruins in this one. The Bruins have really been a better team when Tuukka Rask has been inserted behind the net, and his recent performance has been spectacular. Rask has allowed just 10 goals in his last seven behind the net. The Bruins own a stellar 33-16 mark vs. the Northeast, and the Sabres are just 1-4 when facing an opponent that scored 2 or less in their last game. I'll go with the Bruins to even the series.Game: Boston at Buffalo (1:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Boston +1.5 goals -240 (puckline) (risk 5 to win 2.1) The puckline is a very favorable spot for the Bruins in this one. Behind the goalkeeping of Tuukka Rask, the Bruins have allowed just 10 goals in their last seven games. He has been so good that since before Christmas the Bruins have lost just two games with Rask behind the net by more than 1 goal. That mark consists of 26 games! The Bruins are in need here so expect their "A" game, and with Rask in net, they have dropped just two of their lat 26 by 2 goals or more or 7.7%. I'll take the Bruins on the puckline.Game: Montreal at Washington (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Washington -1.5 goals -110 (puckline) (risk 3 to win 2.7) The Montreal Canadiens stunned the Washington Capitals in the series opener 3-2 in OT. I don't expect a repeat performance, in fact I expect the Caps to come out like a swarm of bees out of a beehive. They have won 33 games this season by 2 goals or more, and I expect this one to be over very early. The Canadiens are a not-so impressive 18-38 taking on a winning team, and just 1-8 as a playoff underdog in their last nine. The Caps stand-in at an impressive 71-30 in their last 101 games at home. They will come out all guns a-blazin’ in this one, so I'll go with the Caps on the puckline.Game: Los Angeles at Vancouver (10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Los Angeles +160 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 3.2) The NHL Playoffs have seen many biting dogs early on, with five teams posted at +160 or better logging wins on the road, so why not the Kings? The Kings were almost part of the hard-hitting dogs in the opener, but lost a heartbreaker in overtime 3-2 in game one. The Kings have come up big vs. an opponent allowing 2 or less in their last game, having gone 17-5 in their last 22 in that situation. The Canucks, in that exact same situation, have dropped their last four, managing just two wins in their last seven tries following a win. I'll go with Los Angeles to even the series at one apiece.Game: Los Angeles at Vancouver (10:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Los Angeles +1.5 goals -190 (puckline) (risk 3 to win 1.6) The Kings came very close to being amongst the five teams that have scored a win as a +160 dog or higher early in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. The Canucks are just 3-6 in their last nine facing the -1.5 puckline, while the Kings have gone nine straight games without dropping a game by more than a single goal. This is a big game for the Kings, so I expect them to be there at the end and I will go with them on the puckline. Results: 4-1 ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
