Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Philadelphia at Pittsburgh (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Philadelphia +150 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 4.5)
The Flyers were never in game one as the Penguins dominated from start to finish, and never had to worry. The fate and resolve of the Flyers will certainly be more apparent in this one. They have lived up to those words on the season, as they have followed-up a horrible loss of three goals or more with an 18-7 mark. They have also followed-up a two goal or less offensive performance with a 19-7 mark. The Penguins have been hot at home, but the last team to take them down in this building was the Flyers, and I expect them to answer the bell for game two. The Flyers get the call here.
Game: Carolina at New Jersey (7:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on New Jersey -150 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 2.7)
The Devils dominated Carolina in the opener here and you have to begin to wonder about the Hurricanes’ mentality right now. Their closing game of the regular season was a loss here, and they followed that by getting manhandled. The Hurricanes have not done well shaking off a big loss by three goals or more as they stand at a paltry 2-9 in their last 11 after losing by 3+. The home team is now 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these two clubs with Carolina winning here just once in their last five. New Jersey goes up 2-0 here as they game two.
Game: St. Louis at Vancouver (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on St. Louis +160 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 4.8)
The St. Louis Blues played the Vancouver Canucks in game one that was statistically a draw, but they dropped the decision 2-1. They certainly weren't left with the feeling they couldn't win here. This is a Blues team that remains 9-3 in their last 12 games, and I don't think they are going down in this series without a fight. The Canucks have been vulnerable on offense as they have managed just nine goals in their last five games which give the Blues a pretty good chance of being in this one late, and this time they get it done. The Blues even the series here at 1-1.
