Hockey Pick - April 17, 2008
12-8 in the playoffs so far for +7.4 units. We are now 6-1 the last two nights including a 2-0 sweep last night for +3.6 units. We look to keep it rolling with three more picks tonight with a 4-unit.
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Washington at Philadelphia (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Philadelphia -135 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.2)
What can you say about those Flyers? Wow they are really putting on a show. They have shutdown Ovechkin. Ovechkin seems frustrated and ineffective in his first three games against the Flyers. Let's not discount the Flyers though. They have scored 12 times in three games including six goals in game 3. Another bright spot for the Flyers in great penalty killing. The flyers stopped seven-of-eight power plays in game 3 - no doubt helping them win the game. Tough defense, shutting down Ovechkin and team scoring will help the Flyers pull off another win at home. Take Philadelphia at home.
Game: Anaheim at Dallas (8:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Dallas -130 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.3)
One of the most physical series thus far in the playoffs. These teams have been battling hard. We dropped our 5-unit pick on Tuesday night to a Ducks win. Anaheim scored three goals on just four shots in the first 15 minutes of that game! Not likely to happen again. Dallas made a game out of it battling back with two goals of their own. Turco is a proud goalie and usually bounces back well after playing poorly. Dallas is 6-2 in its last eight games when playing at home against Anaheim. Steve Ott is the Stars' top face-off man at 58.8% during the regular season. His key face-off wins in this series meant a lot for the team in games 1 and 2. Also keep your eye on Mike Ribeiro in this game. He had 10 points in eight regular season games against Anaheim. Better goaltending, more offense, solid face-off wins and a home game all add up to a Dallas win at home. Take Dallas over Anaheim in this one.
Game: Colorado at Minnesota (9:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Minnesota -125 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 3.2)
Minnesota was absolutely embarrassed on Tuesday night by the Avs losing 5-1. However, Minnesota is a much better team at home then on the road. Minnesota is 7-1 in its last eight games at home. Despite being pulled from game 4 look for Backstrom to bounce back in a big way. Three of the five goals were a direct result of some sloppy defense in front of him. Sloppy defense and lots of goals are a rare occurence for this Wild team. Jacques Lemaire was sure to remind his team to stick to the trap and tighten up the defense for game 5. The Wild will also have to stay out of the penalty box. The Avs had 13 power plays in game 4 and scored twice. Better defense, better goaltending and staying disciplined will help the Wild win game 5 at home. Take the Wild in game 5.
Results: 2-1
