![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Buffalo Sabres were not very good the entire second half of the season. The Sabres finished their final 35 games on the right side just 15 times - a losing record. The Bruins may not have had the type of season they did a year ago, but they showed during the regular season that they can compete and win vs. the Sabres as they took the season series three games to two. The Sabres scored just 11 times vs. the Bruins in the five games, which all took on a playoff-type feel, with no game topping the 5 total goals scored mark. The Bruins own a 33-15 mark in their last 48 vs. the Northeast, and have shown that they can win the "playoff" type of game vs. the Sabres. I'll back Boston here.Game: Boston at Buffalo (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Boston +1.5 goals -240 (puckline) (risk 5 to win 2.1) The Sabres completed their final 35 games by coming out on the right side just 15 times. They also won just 29.2% of their 82 games on the season by 2 goals or more. The Bruins took the season series from the Sabres and in the five games played, Boston never lost to the Sabres by more than a single goal. The Bruins suffered losses of 2 goals or more just 18.3% of the time on the season through their 82 games. The value here goes to the Bruins on the puckline.Game: Montreal at Washington (7:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Washington -270 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 1.9) The Washington Capitals completed the regular season with 121 points, tops in the NHL not only this season, but since the Red Wings posted 124 back in '05-'06. The Caps were pretty much unbeatable at home losing just five games, so although this line has a chalky appearance it is well stocked with value. The Canadiens are coming into the playoffs limping as they finished on the right side of just three of their last 11 games, scoring just 23 goals along the way or 2 per contest. That makes this a monumental task as amazingly the Caps have not scored less than 2 at home the entire season! The Canadiens have taken the doughnut at 0-8 in their last eight playoff games vs. a winning team. I'll go with Washington here.Game: Montreal at Washington (7:15 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Washington -1.5 goals +110 (puckline) (risk 3 to win 3.3) The Washington Capitals have a lot going for them here. They lost just five games at home all season and their 121 regular season points is the most the NHL has seen since the 2005-06 Red Wings. Montreal struggled down the stretch, producing just 2 goals per game over their last 11. To put some perspective on what they face, the Caps did not score less than 2 the entire season at home. To further dismiss the Habs’ chances here they are 0-8 in their last eight attempts to beat a playoff opponent with a winning record. I'll go with Washington here on the puckline. Results: 1-3 ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
