This adds to our five and a half month totals of 309-226 for +167.8 units. Tonight we go with a trio of picks including a pair of 5 unit plays in the first round of the NHL playoffs.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Pittsburgh Penguins kind of floated through the season, but make no mistake about it, this is still a quality hockey team, and they will be primed to defend their NHL Stanley Cup win from a year ago, especially getting things underway on home ice. The Ottawa Senators have had tremendous difficulty on the road vs real good teams, as they are 7-24 on the road facing a home team with a .600+ winning percentage in their last 31 tries. They have also taken the doughnut in their last 7 playoff games, when posted in the role of a dog, at 0-7. Penguins playoff pedigree showing 22-5 in their last 27 as a playoff favorite, says Pittsburgh gets the opener.Game: Ottawa at Pittsburgh (7:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Pittsburgh -1.5 goals +155 (puckline) (risk 3 to win 4.7) The alarm will go off for the Penguins here after pacing their season, and now will hit home ice in defense of their Stanley Cup win a year ago. They have been dominating as a post-season favorite to the tune of a 22-5 mark as a chalk, while the Ottawa Senators 7-24 road mark vs home teams with a winning percentage of .600+ doesn't bode well for them here. the Senators are also 0-7 in their last 7 as a playoff dog. This one will get the Penguins attention, and I like them on the puckline.Game: Detroit at Phoenix (10:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Detroit -110 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 4.6) The Detroit Red Wings have become a fixture in the playoffs, and not just getting here, sticking around and going deep. Redwings turned it up to close the regular season at 17-5, and their playoff pedigree shows37-15 in their last 52 playoff games posted as a favorite. Coyotes haven't been such a challenging playoff opponent, as they have really been humbled in the quarterfinals round of the playoffs. Phoenix owns a not so impressive 2-11 in their last 13 playoff games in this round. Redwings 16-5-3 in their last 24 trips to Phoenix, and you can bet they will be tougher in the playoffs. I'll go with Detroit in this one. ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
