Nhl Pick - April 11, 2010

We pushed on our lone NHL pick last night. We take to today's NHL action riding a 33-14 run for 70% and +53 units over the last three weeks. On today's menu, we go with four premium NHL picks including a 4-unit play.

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: Detroit at Chicago (3:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Detroit +170 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 5.1)

Chicago grabs the top spot in the West with a win. But, Detroit is also motivated here. Looking at ninth place on March 9, they have since climbed to have a shot at fifth place by going 12-1-2. Young Jimmy Howard has posted a 1.89 GAA average during this run since March 10. The Red Wings have a lot of pride and won't be laying down here. Under Mike Babckock, this team is an incredible 41-6 coming off a road win vs. a division rival including 14-1 since last season. Chicago has won four straight, but they are just 7-12 at home in that situation over the past 15 years. I like Detroit at the nice odds here.

This is a chance for Pittsburgh to close out the season on a winning note. And, they get a team that is bad enough to hand the Penguins a big victory. The Islanders have lost their last two games by 4 goals and 6 goals, making it evident they are done with this year. I like Pittsburgh to storm into the playoffs off a big win.

Pittsburgh has the fourth spot in the playoffs locked up. But, they certainly don't want to limp in off a loss in a game they should win. Sidney Crosby has a shot at hist first 50-goal season, so you can expect him to be playing hard. He has been at 49 for six games, but hasn't been able to get over the hump. This is his last shot. New York is just 7-15-2 this season vs. Atlantic foes. They are coming off two straight games in which they allowed 7 goals each so it's pretty clear this team has given up on the final games. The Penguins are 77-42 after a loss the past three seasons. I look for that to go to 78-42 today.

The Panthers have won 15 of their last 20 vs. the Lightning here at home. The Lightning are 12-28 on the road, getting outscored by 1.3 goals per game. Even when facing a losing team like Florida, Tampa Bay is just 28-48 the last two seasons. When going on the road after two straight home games, the Lightning are just 2-17 since last season. Florida has their issues, but Tampa Bay has more. I like the Panthers.
