Hockey Pick - April 11, 2009We split our picks 1-1 last night for a slight loss. Today we are on the ice full-force with seven premium picks (including a 5-unit play), as our NHL picks are hitting 76%, 13-4 for +36.9 units over the last week.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Carolina Hurricanes are closing the season very strong. They have now won nine of their last 10 games, and 17 of their last 23, including their last two on the road. They have done it on both ends of the ice as they have outscored their opponents by a 2-1 ratio at 28-14 over their last eight games. New Jersey has kind of limped down the stretch as they have won just three of their last 10. The Hurricanes also boast a 20-7 mark against the East in their last 27, and have taken the last four meetings between these clubs. I'll back Carolina here.Game: Philadelphia at New York Islanders (2:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Philadelphia -230 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 1.7) Game: Boston at Buffalo (4:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 5.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7) Game: Ottawa at Toronto (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 6 +100 (risk 3 to win 3) It hasn't been a great year for the Senators, but they have certainly closed strong. The Senators have won 13 of their last 19 games, and have allowed 28 goals in their last 11 games. The Maple Leafs have played nine of their last 12 games on home ice to the UNDER. Ottawa finds itself in their fourth game in six nights, and in the last four instances, all four finished UNDER the total. These teams haven't exactly burned up the nets in their last five meetings either, as four of the last five have also gone UNDER the total, so I will go with the UNDER in this one.Game: Washington at Florida (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Washington +110 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.3) The Capitals are playoff-ready, and their offense has been on fire of late. The Caps have won five of their last six and in the process, have scored four or more goals in all six games. They have tallied 28 goals in the six games, for 4.7 per contest. That 4.7 average certainly puts pressure on the Panthers, who have reached the five-goal mark just 11 times all season, and in their last four games, have scored just nine times, or just over two per game. The Caps are also 41-17 in their last 58 against the East, and have cashed in four of the last five vs. the Panthers. I'll go with Washington here.Game: Anaheim at Phoenix (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Anaheim -110 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.7) Game: Edmonton at Calgary (10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Edmonton +160 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 8) Edmonton has been quite the antithesis of the typical sports team this season as they have put together a better road mark, than they have a home mark. Their last time on the ice they blitzed the Flames in easy fashion, winning 5-1. The Flames have been a very tough team all season, but there is one situation where they have struggled mightily, and that is coming back after playing the previous night where they are just 3-14. The Oilers have to be the confident team here with long odds, playing a Flames’ team in its most vulnerable spot. I will go with Edmonton here. Results: 1-6 ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
