Nhl Picks Handicapping - April 09, 2009We took last night off from the NHL ice, but our streak remains hot! Over the last five days we are hitting 83% at 10-2 for +34.8 units including dog winners of +120, +150, +155, and a +190 dog winner on the Kings on Tuesday night. Three more premium plays today including another big dog selection.
![]() Today's NHL Hockey Picks: The Lightning is mired in a seven-game losing streak, but getting two to one odds at home is tempting. It is also laden with value as on the season, the Lightning is 4-5 when listed as a moneyline dog of 200-299. The Capitals are in a vulnerable situation that has seen them go just 16-37 when playing an opponent off a game where they allowed five or more goals. The Lightning hasn't struck often this season, but when they do, it is usually potent as indicated by their 4-5 mark mentioned above at long odds. I will back them to work their magic once again.Game: Dallas at Colorado (9:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 5.5 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6) The Colorado Avalanche has displayed futility down the stretch of the NHL season. The Avalanche is just a woeful 4-16 in their last 20 games, and when you look at what the offense has done it is easy to see why. They have been shutout four times, scored a single goal five times, and scored just two on seven other occasions. The average over the last 20 games is just 1.7 a game! That puts a lot of pressure on this Dallas offense to likely need to produce four goals to put this one over, something they have only managed to do in two of their last 20 games! These teams certainly haven't displayed that potential recently, nor has their last five matchups, that have seen the UNDER prevail in four out of five. The UNDER is the call here.Game: Los Angeles at Vancouver (10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 5.5 -130 (risk 3 to win 2.3) The Los Angeles Kings shutout total has reached 10 for the season, and there have been 26 other times this team has reached just one goal. That represents just about half of their games scoring zero, or one goal on the season. That puts a high demand on an opponent to do all the scoring to push games over the total. That is magnified by the fact that this will be the fourth game in six days for the Canucks, who have played each of the last four in that situation to the UNDER. And against a team that struggles to score, I look for this one to follow that trend and finish UNDER the total. Results: 2-1 ![]() NHL Hockey Picks Resources:
