Hockey Pick - April 06, 2009

We hit our lone pick last night on San Jose - good for +4 units. Over the weekend, we went 5-1 for +13.5 units with a 5-unit winner on Saturday. Two picks today including another 5-unit dog play...

Today's NHL Hockey Picks:

Game: Ottawa at Montreal (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on Ottawa +155 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 7.8)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 6 -130 (risk 3 to win 2.3)

The Ottawa Senators started the season so poorly they basically eliminated themselves from playoff contention early on. Some teams quit, and others find a way to finish strong, and the Senators have taken the high road here. They are 17-11 since early February, and have played much better hockey over the last two months. Part of the reason is that they have allowed just two goals per game in those 17 wins. The Canadiens, who have done a nice job at home all year, have not done so recently as they have just three wins in their last eight on home ice. The Senators late-season surge has seen them go 8-2 in their last 10 with one day of rest, while the home slumping Canadiens have been just 1-4 vs. the Northeast in their last five. I will play both the total and side here, backing the surging Senators as a big dog as well as the UNDER.
Game: Los Angeles at Calgary (9:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 5.5 +100 (risk 3 to win 3)
It has been no secret that the Kings have had trouble putting the puck in the net all season long. The Kings have been shutout on the season 10 times already, and have scored just one goal 15 times. That is 25 games where they have contributed one goal or less toward the total. The Kings have been no better recently, as they have scored two or less in six of their last eight games. The Flames have "flamed out" on offense recently. They have now been shutout in three of their last six games, scoring just six times, good for just one goal per game. The Kings have now been 7-1 to the UNDER in their last eight on the road as a dog, while Calgary has played five in a row to the UNDER as a favorite. I like this one to finish UNDER the total.

We won with the Ducks last night at +150. Tonight however we'll fade them as I like the Sharks to exact some revenge on the road. San Jose has a shot at the President's Trophy and back-to-back...

The Boston Bruins have been solid at home all season with just six losses, and goaltending as well as defense have played a significant role in their success on home ice. The Bruins have held 22 oppon...

The Chicago Blackhawks have simply not been playing well for over a month now. They have won just three games since February 21 that did not end in a shootout or overtime. Their overall mark stands at...

The Phoenix Coyotes went through a horrible 21-game stretch that saw them go just 4-17. They have bounced back nicely as they have now won five of eight, and three of their last four. They have also w...

The Buffalo Sabres work behind the net and the defensive end has been missing over the last two and a half weeks. The Sabres have now allowed 28 goals in their last seven games, or four per contest. I...
