Nhl Prediction - April 05, 2008
1-0 yesterday and we have three picks today...
Today's NHL Hockey Picks:
Game: Tampa Bay at Atlanta (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Tampa Bay +110 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.3)
This game is the season finale for both teams. Atlanta has just 74 points on the season and they are 2-7 over their last nine games yet they are favored. Tampa Bay has been decent in division games, scoring 2.9 goals per game. Against this Thrashers defense that allows 3.3 per game, they can certainly win. And we think they will. Atlanta has been a real drainer as a home favorite the past two seasons (-18.2 units). That includes a 15-22 record when favored between -100 and -150. They are also 17-25 the past two seasons at home coming off a loss. We'll back the Lightning here.
Game: Buffalo at Boston (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Buffalo +110 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 3.3)
Boston is in the playoffs after their 2-1 win over Ottawa last night. Buffalo is out. So, we think this game actually means more to Buffalo who would like to at least enter the offeseason on a high note. Over the last two seasons in post-All Star play, the Bruins are just 9-20 at home vs. good offensive teams (those averaging 30+ shots on goal per game). Buffalo actually has a winning record the past two seasons as an underdog and Boston is 0-6 this season at home playing on back-to-back days. We look for Buffalo to win here.
Game: Calgary at Vancouver (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Game Total OVER 5 -130 (risk 4 to win 3.1)
Vancouver is out of the playoffs after Thursday's 2-1 loss to Edmonton. They have lost six of their last seven and have to be dissapointed. We think they will relax on offense and defense. Calgary allows 3.1 per game on the road this season and Vancouver has given up 3.6 per game over their last five games. Vancouver is 11-3 OVER in their last 14 games vs. winning teams. They are also 10-2 OVER this season coming off a home loss. We like this one to get to 6+ goals.
Results: 2-1
