Expert Football Pick - August 22, 2009We went 4-3 for +3.7 units on Thursday and Friday. I have three Saturday picks below. A Monday night pick, if I have one, will be sent out Monday morning. Have a great weekend!
![]() Today's NFL Football Picks: Each of these teams is seeking its first win of the NFLX. The Bucs have a battle at QB and Luke McCown did little to help his cause as he threw for just 19 yards in his start vs the Titans. Byron Leftwich gets the start tonight vs. the Jags which should help the Bucs get off to a better start. Leftwich threw for a 24 yard TD pass in the opener. The Jags offense was bad in their opener. They couldn't find the end-zone, settling for three FG's. The Bucs lost at home to the Jags last year, and with a rookie head coach in search of his first win, expect more life out of the Bucs here. This game fits a long successful NFLX system of mine that has connected on 66% over an 11 year period, and is active for the Bucs in this one. I will play Tampa plus the points here.Game: Carolina at Miami (Saturday 8/22 7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Carolina +3 (-115) (risk 2 to win 1.7) The Dolphins are going with Chad Henne and Patrick White for a good chunk of this game, looking for a solid backup to Chad Pennington. That was not successful a week ago, as Henne and White combined to go just 9-18 for 108 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Panthers played poorly against the Giants in their opener, committing five turnovers. But, they only lost by 7 points to a good Giants team. You know that will irk head coach John Fox, as he has had three perfect 4-0 NFL preseasons in the last 6+ years. I expect Jake Delhomme, who saw limited snaps a week ago, to get more action. Steve Smith may play here as well, after being held out last week. John Fox has been known to play to win in the preseason, and after last week's performance, I expect the Panthers to put one in the win column here.Game: San Diego at Arizona (Saturday 8/22 10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on San Diego +2.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6) Ken Wisenhunt has yet to show a passion to win preseason games, having gone 2-7 in his brief coaching career. So don't expect to see anything startling out of Arizona this week. Norv Turner in his four seasons in San Diego, has put up a superb record including three 3-1 seasons, so certainly a different approach working here. Norv Turner couldn't have liked watching his team commit three turnovers last week. Yet, the Chargers stayed within 6 points of the Seahawks. Meanwhile Wisenhunt went with a four-QB rotation last week. The Chargers threw for 329 yards last game - a sign of a team looking to score. Another surprise was the fact that LaDanian Tomlinson played, as he has been held out of NFLX games throughout his career. This is another of the same systems that carry a 66% winning edge over the last 11 years, that points to the Chargers here, and I'm going with San Diego, plus the points. Results: 2-1 ![]() NFL Football Picks Resources:
