Nfl Preseason Picks - August 11, 2008

We've started off on the right foot, going 3-1 thus far. Below is our final pick of the week.

NFL 2008 Team Previews
We'll release our eight divisional previews throughout the preseason. This week you can check out our AFC East Preview and AFC North Preview.

Today's NFL Football Picks:

Game: Cincinnati at Green Bay (Monday 8/11 8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Cincinnati +3 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8)

The drama in Green Bay is finally over. Right? Well, maybe not completely. To the shagrin of Aaron Rodgers, we're going to hear about this thing all season long. We learned a lot about Brett Favre and the Packers organization the past few weeks. Favre proved to be just as self-centered as the next superstar athlete after all. And here we thought for over a decade that he was somehow different. Granted, the circus wasn't completely his fault. The Packers organization had the chance to get back their Hall of Fame QB who led them to the NFC Championship game last season - and inexplicably walked away from it. Shame on Brett for how he handled this and shame on the Packers too. They both let emotions get in the way of doing the right thing and as a result, both sides are losers compared to how it could have played out. The end result is an unfocused training camp for the Pack and for Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers looked bad in the scrimmage before a packed house at Lambeau last week and with all the noise and distractions that continue to face this team, it's hard to believe they will be really focused and ready for this one. The Bengals have their own distraction in Chad Johnson. But, oftentimes when there are distractions facing a team, they are better served playing on the road where they can get away from much of the scrutiny that surrounds them at home. Thanks to the Packers', there's been relatively little attention placed on the Johnson situation going into this game. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has covered six of his last eight exhibition games. He's also won his last two openers, so there is reason to believe he will care here. We will take the Bengals to cover this one over the more distracted Packers.

It is going to be difficult psychologically for bettors to look at a New England game and resist them as just a mere 5 point favorite at home. What we must do however is keep this in perspec...
