Ncaa Basketball Expert Picks - November 16, 2008

We've got three Saturday College hoops games on tap. Good luck today! Today we also feature our Top Ten Mid-Major Conference Teams in the Dog Pound below.

If you missed our Preseason College Basketball Top 25, take a look back here.

Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:

Game: S E Missouri State at Kansas State (3:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on S E Missouri State +23.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 156.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

Kansas State took care of business on Friday, dispatching of Florida A&M 96-57. SE Missouri State lost 102-59 at New Mexico. So, easy blowout winner for the Wildcats here, right? Not so fast. This is a large number to cover for a team that is returning just one starter from last year. I expect an inspired effort from the Redhawks after that dismal and embarrassing opening performance. The fact is, it will be difficult for K-State to put together back-to-back great games (held A&M to 34% shooting) and, it's unlikely that SEMS will put up another stinker like they did in game one (allowed 55% shooting). I also like the UNDER here as teams coming off a home blowout win by 20+ in November have gone UNDER the total at a 69% clip in their next game the past 15 years. I'll ride the Redhawks and the UNDER in this one.

Game: Rhode Island at Duke (4:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Duke -23.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Duke is playing their third game already having beaten Presbyterian by 31 points and Georgia Southern by 43. The Blue Devils have now won 61 straight non-conference home games. Rhode Island advanced to the semi-finals with a two-point victory over Brown. Duke should have no trouble with this team as the Blue Devils are back with all five starters, and they are on a mission to improve their play after several disappointing seasons. While Duke is going to struggle when they face tougher teams, they are averaging 88.5 points per game and holding their weaker opponents to just 29.1% shooting. Under Coach-K, Duke is 17-8 ATS in November home games and 86-61 ATS overall as a home favorite as well as 78-51 ATS off a double-digit home win. I'll ride the Blue Devils to a convincing win and cover here.

Results: 2-1
