Expert Ncaa March Madness Picks - March 22, 2010We bowled the 4-4 split with our CBB picks last night. Today we take to the NIT and CBI tourneys with four premium plays.
![]() Today's NCAA Basketball Picks: Once upon a time, the Thundering Herd were 15-2 and looking like a real threat to crash the Big Dance, but the wheels fell off in a disappointing 8-7 finish. This line made sense at mid-season, but the Herd are not that team anymore. The Mountaineers have taken an entirely different route as they opened 7-7, but finished 16-5. What is more impressive is four of the five losses were by 5 points or less, so this team finds themselves in every game over their last 21, and are also 13-3 ATS in their last 16. The Herd are just 5-11 ATS as a chalk from 7-12.5. This one is going to Appalachian State.Game: Connecticut at Virginia Tech (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Virginia Tech -4 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7) The Huskies were an enigma all season until lately, when it became clear that this is a talented, yet flawed, and mentally fragile team. They beat West Virginia and Villanova, and looked like they were about to join the dance party, but crashed, burned and disappointed. They have not reached that level of play since. When your top three scorers have a combined 300 turnovers you’re in trouble, and turnovers have been the Huskies undoing all season. The Hokies were snubbed by the committee despite a 10-6 mark in the ACC, and look to be playing with an edge and facing a two-time NCAA Champion will get even more attention here. The Hokies are unbeatable at home with their lone setback was to Maryland in overtime, gets this one rather comfortable. Virginia Tech gets the call.Game: Princeton at I U P U I (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Princeton +6 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7) The Princeton Tigers are always a tough draw for any team because they present problems with their methodical, precision offense. The Jaguars have had a big year, but even top tier conference teams struggle with Princeton, and the Tigers are back to the level they were at when they gave NCAA Tourney teams fits. The Tigers are 19-4 over their last 23, and 15-3 ATS in their last 18. The Tigers are also not road shy as they are 20-6 ATS in their last 26 road tilts. The Jags sport just a 2-6 ATS mark after an ATS win and will be in a 40 minute game here, so the points are huge. Princeton gets the call.Game: Dayton at Cincinnati (9:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Cincinnati -3.5 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8) The Dayton Flyers really fell apart down the stretch of the season, and perhaps played their way out of the NCAA Tournament. Their bigger problem has been on the road where they have been inept all season. Their last nine played outside of their own gym, saw just two wins and 1 was vs. Fordham who won all of two games all season. The Bearcats played themselves out of the tourney as well, but eight of their last nine losses were to teams that made the NCAA Tournament. This is a team that did not lose a single game all season at home to a team that did not make the NCAA Tournament, and with a thin line posted for this one, I'm going with Cincinnati. Results: 2-2 ![]() NCAA Basketball Picks Resources:
