Game: Arkansas vs. Mississippi State (1:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Arkansas +2.5
Mississippi State is coming off of a huge upset OT win over Kentucky. The game saw many swings back-and-forth, until Miss St. took charge in OT. Now they must get up for an Arkansas team that beat them by nine points just a short time ago. The bad news for Miss St. is that SEC teams coming off of an OT game are just 2-17 SU since the tournament started! Now we have a team in a 2 for 19 situation as a favorite, but even more inviting is the nature of the win, as it was a highly emotional win, as an underdog vs. a national power. Arkansas wins this one.
Game: Boston College vs. North Carolina (1:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Boston College +11
This would look like a slam dunk for NC, but hold on. Boston College barely squeaked past Miami and had to come from behind to win it in OT. You would think that they would be tired, and not able to compete here. Everyone shows up against NC. It is just a matter of what they bring to the table. We expect a HUGE effort by BC. North Carolina has probably the deepest young talent in the country, but the key word here is "young." The last thing a team develops, with experience and age, is sound team defense. The lack of that for Carolina is how this one stays close. NC has failed to demonstrate a high level of team defense on the road. They have dropped four of their last six away from Chapel Hill, and it is because of the porous defense. They average 68-points per game allowed, but let's look at these road games. They gave up just 58 to Florida State which was expected. The five prior games away from home: 83, 73, 72, 89, 84! That is 80-ppg, which does not jive well with laying double digits to a very good team. The other teams they played that can score: Tenn 87, Gonzaga 82, and Ohio State 89. The bottom line here is this Carolina team is very talented, but at the same time very vulnerable to giving up a lot of points. We will take a good BC team and the double digit points here.
Game: Florida A&m vs. Delaware St. (6:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Delaware St. -4
This is a tough game for the odds-makers to post a line. Delaware State is by far the superior team, and has been 18-2 over their last 20 games. They have lost at Pitt, NC ST., Missouri St, Wisconsin, Purdue, Marquette, Michigan and won at Baylor. They played the 11th strongest non-conference schedule in the country and carry an RPI of 117. To give you an idea what kind of team that is, here are some teams in that range: UConn, Rhode Island, Wake Forest and Wyoming. The truth is that this team is above this conference by a longshot at 117, and thus the 18-2 mark over the last 20 games. Florida A&M has lost to teams with the following RPI's: 223, 223, 271, 271, 287. They also escaped losses to No. 292 needing OT to win. They beat the No. 302 by three points, and the No. 335 by a single point. This game should be a minimum of an 8-10 point win for Delaware St.
