Final Four Bracket - March 05, 2010

We have some killer systems for the conference championships and they have been working very well for us over the past three days as we have gone 8-4-1. Many of those systems are in play today as we roll out eight more premium picks - seven of which are 4-unit selections. 

Last night, we finished 4-1 on the college hoops floor. Last night's winner lifted us to 185-162 for +31 units over the last three months.

Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:

Game: N C Wilmington vs. Towson State (12:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 143.5 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6)

This is a matchup of teams that have each lost 20 or more games, with an opportunity to extend their season. It should present an intensity that translates to defense. These teams did play a game in Wilmington that produced just 111 points, and I see this one playing out in similar fashion. NC Wilmington has played four straight to the UNDER as a favorite, and Towson State, in neutral-site games has delivered a nifty 9-2 mark to the UNDER in their last 11. Each team here thinks that they can win this one, and that will mean a step-up on the defensive end. I like the UNDER here.

The Delaware Blue Hens closed the season with six straight losses, so they get one final shot at redeeming themselves. Teams in this situation have proven to be lethal, and getting a bundle of points vs. a VCU team that will be interested in winning here, but not expending a lot of energy as they expect to go deep into this championship round. That has been noted especially in the Colonial Conference where teams as a double-digit favorite, have been horrendous against the spread. I look for Delaware to put up a fight, good enough to stay inside an inflated number. I also like the UNDER here. Delaware is 7-3 OVER on the road and VCU 9-1 OVER at home. So how can this one go UNDER? This is a conference championship game which means more intensity and lower-scoring. VCU is 12-3 UNDER in their last 15 conference tournament games and they are also 13-1 UNDER in their last 14 neutral-court games when instilled as a favorite. I like the UNDER here.

The Bradley Braves have played a lot of low-scoring games on the road within the conference with total points scored of 102, 112, 113, 126, and 122 before OT with Indiana State. The Blue Jays are down this season, and their 3-12 mark off their own court is testament of this team's struggles away from home. While in the past this team had the offensive proficiency to just go on a big run and put teams away, they are limited this season. They have played to an 8-2-1 mark to the UNDER in the role of a favorite of 6.5 or less, and expected competitive games has seen them play low. I'll go with the UNDER in this one.

The Hofstra Pride looked horrible during a mid-season stretch that saw this team go just 2-9, but they finished on a high note with eight wins in their last nine games. Georgia State got into a running game with Hofstra late in the season, and won't make that same mistake here. This is a team that scored 62 or less in 13 conference games, and will definitely be playing the shot clock here. They have proven that to be the case entering here with a 7-1 mark to the UNDER as a neutral-site dog, and none of the Pride's last four on a neutral court have made it over the total. I'll go UNDER here.

The Big Red are simply heads and heels over the lower tier of Ivy teams, and Brown is a part of that lower tier. The Big Red have 11 Ivy wins on the season, by an average margin of 18.5 points per game, so this big number is more than doable for them. The Brown Bears have already suffered four losses in Ivy play by 14 or more, and playing at home vs. the best teams in the Ivy, outside of Cornell, they lost to Harvard by 14 and Princeton by 17. The Bears have been inept vs. teams with a winning record, producing a 4-11 ATS mark in their last 15. They are also 1-10 ATS since last season after a game in which they allowed 60 points or less. I like Cornell here.

The Drexel Dragons have been under 70 in eight of their last 10 games played, and the James Madison Dukes have been under 70 in 10 of their last 14. It is unlikely to see either team at or over 70 here. Drexel has shown patience, and they have also shown the propensity to play low at a neutral site, as six of their last seven on neutral hardwood have fallen short of the total. James Madison has done the same, with just one of their last six playing over the total when played at a neutral site. I like this one to stay UNDER the total.

The Indiana State Sycamores have really struggled to find the bottom of the net on the road. Aside from an OT loss at Missouri State where they scored 83, their last nine away from home have shown them producing an average of just 56.5 points per game. That will certainly challenge this one to top the total here. They have been 4-1 to the UNDER in their last five as a neutral-site dog. Illinois State won 21 games this season, and they are amongst the many teams that play tighter on a neutral court, with 10 of their last 13 failing to reach the total. I'll play this one UNDER the total.
