March Madness Pool - January 25, 2010I am adding another couple of picks on Charleston... We passed on yesterday's action and return to the college hoops floor today with three premium picks. We resume action in the midst of a solid seven-week run at 116-90 for +66 units.
 Today's NCAA Basketball Picks: These are a pair of teams that are far from what they have been in the past. Penn, once the dominator in the Ivy with Princeton has fallen fast and hard, and Phil Martelli's St. Joe's team is struggling as well. Penn simply does not have any firepower on the offensive end. Looking at their six games against mid-level or higher teams, they have averaged just 54.5 points per game. The Hawks have settled into a much slower pace as well, playing games averaging 124 total points in their last three and as a road favorite, they have turned the UNDER into money in 12 of their last 15. Penn's offensive struggles has seen them play solidly as an UNDER team with eight of their last 10 falling shy of the total. There won’t be much offense here from either side, so I'll go with the UNDER.Game: College Of Charleston at W. Carolina (8:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on College Of Charleston +8 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6) The Cougars haven't started this well in ten years. They've gone 13-6 thus far and they are 8-0 straight-up and ATS in conference play. They haven't lost a gain ATS since December 22nd (10 games ago). Yet, they are getting 8 points here. I think it's way too much. W. Carolina has gone 10-0 at home, but most of those games were unlined, versus cupcakes like St. Catharine, Arkansas Mont, Campbell, UNC-Ashvile and Berea. Who? Charleston has gone 14-5 ATS the past three seasons when playing teams that outscore their opponents by 4+ points per game. They are 8-2 as a dog this season and I like them to get the ATS win here.Game: College Of Charleston at W. Carolina (8:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 1 unit on College Of Charleston +290 (moneyline) (risk 1 to win 2.9) I like Charleston's chances here at an upset win. This team has faced some stiff competition on the road this season and they have gone 6-2 ATS in lined road games. Right now their offense is really clicking (78.2 ppg) and they are undefeated in eight conference games. Over their last five games, W. Carolin ahas given up 77 poitns per game and they just haven't looked that good. When facing a winning team, the Catamounts have lost 59 of their last 77 games. They are also just 32-43 in conference games under Larry Hunter. I'm taking a flyer on Charleston to pull off the upset here. NCAA Basketball Picks Resources:
