Free Picks Ncaa - January 21, 2010We finished 2-5 last night as we took a stumble on college hoops floor. We look forward to the new day and move on with five premium picks including three 5-unit picks. Our 5-unit CBB picks are hitting just under 70% on the season at 28-13 and over the last six weeks overall, our CBB picks are 112-81 (58%) for +88 units.
 Today's NCAA Basketball Picks: Penn State hosts an 8-9 Indiana team that has only one road win on the season in six tries. The Hoosiers offense is bad while the Penn State defense is superb, allowing just 60 points per game in nine home games. Under Ed DeChellis, Penn State is 18-6 as a home favorite. The Nittany Lions have dropped five in a row and I expect them to show up here with a win over a defenseless Indiana team. USC hosts Washington State, a team that likes to score. But the scoring won't come easy tonight as USC has held opponents to under 55 ppg on the season (51 per game here at home). The Trojans are 9-3 straight-up in home games vs. winning teams and 10-2 vs. conference foes the past two seasons. Put these two teams together in a moneyline parlay.Game: South Alabama at North Texas (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on South Alabama +5 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6) The Jags have earned their stripes this season by going into the rugged SEC and pulling out road wins over both Arkansas and Florida. This team can play, and obviously has what it takes to win on the road. They provide serious matchup problems with at times, four-guard sets, and teams struggle to matchup. The Mean Green have some misleading credentials. They have a 7-2 home mark, but five of those were unlined games - basically cupcakes. The lined games they have played at home saw them as a 10+ favorite in all but one, and they were beaten soundly by 13. We’ve got a live dog here vs. a fraudulent home team, so I'll go with South Alabama.Game: Oregon State at Stanford (10:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Oregon State +7.5 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6) The Pac-10 is a very interesting conference this season. The end of the season results will be as equally interesting as all 10 teams are currently with either two or three losses in the conference. The conference is in a very down year and from what we have seen so far, anyone can beat anyone. The Beavers are in that group with a win at Oregon already, and Stanford is far from unbeatable. The Cardinal somehow managed to lose at home to Oral Roberts, and was taken to the wire by James Madison, so there is no reason to believe that they are justified in this spot in a conference game. I'll go with Oregon State here.Game: Oregon State at Stanford (10:05 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Oregon State +260 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 5.2) There is no reason to believe that the Beavers can't pull off the upset here. They already have won at Oregon, and the Cardinal has fallen at home to Oral Roberts and almost again to James Madison. In what should be a hard-fought conference battle, I like the odds here against a Stanford team that has proven to be vulnerable. I'll back Oregon State on the moneyline.Game: Loyola Marymount at Portland (10:10 PM Eastern) Pick: 5 units on Loyola Marymount +13 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6) I’m really surprised by this line. The Lions have roared on the road, owning a win over a Notre Dame team that has lost five games in South Bend in the last five years. They also own a win on the road vs. USC, played Montana to a 1-point game and suffered their biggest loss at Tulsa by 14. The Pilots have had an emotional stretch with two close losses in three games to St. Mary's and Gonzaga, so they may have a tough time putting their "A" game on the floor for this one, and that opens the door for a Lion's team that has shown a pedigree on the road to hang inside the number.
