Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: James Madison at William & Mary (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on William & Mary -9.5 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6)
The Tribe is without reputation as they weren't expected to challenge in the CAA, but here they are at 12-3 and they are not pretenders. Just ask UConn who barely escaped the Tribe in Storrs, or Drexel that just suffered a 25-point home loss to them as a favorite. Make no mistake, this is a good team. In addition to their great play vs. Drexel and UConn, the Tribe resume includes wins over Wake Forest, Richmond and Maryland, with both the ACC wins coming on the road. The resume is there for an NCAA bid, so taking care of business tonight at home should be important. The Dukes don't sport much of a resume on the road with wins vs. Florida International and Gardner-Webb, and four double-digit losses. They are over matched here and the Tribe is good for a double-digit win here, so William & Mary gets the call.
Game: Georgetown + William & Mary + Louisiana Tech at Parlay (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Parlay +100 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 4)
I really like these three teams to win their games outright. Put these three teams into a moneyline parlay at approximately even odds. Georgetown has only lost one game at home this season and on average they are winning here at home by 13 points per game, holding opponents to just 59.5 ppg. Seton Hall is 8-3 at home but bad on the road at 2-2 where they give up over 81 points per game. No snoozing here for the Hoyas as they are looking to exact revenge for a 65-60 loss to the Pirates one year ago (when the Hoyas were ranked No. 12 in the country). Over the past three seasons, Seton Hall is just 2-15 vs. teams at .800 or better. William & Mary face a James Madison team that is 3-6 on the road this season. William and Mary is 4-1 this season vs. winning teams and 5-1 off a win. Finally, Louisiana Tech is a perfect 7-0 at home, hosting a Fresno State team that is 2-5 on the road. Fresno (68 points per game) won't be able to keep up with this high-scoring Tech team that is averaging 84 points per game at home. Over the past three seasons, the Bulldogs are 1-11 vs. teams that shoot 48% or better from the field. They are also 2-8 in their last ten games following back-to-back wins. Put these three teams in a moneyline parlay at +100 odds.
Game: Fresno State at Louisiana Tech (9:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Louisiana Tech -8 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Louisiana Tech has been very impressive out of the gate at a shocking 16-2 and is unbeaten at home. This is a superb team that has been under the radar all season, and that has built a six-game ATS winning streak, beating the line by nearly 10 points per game. Kyle and Brandon Gibson have been huge as they are both pouring in over 20 points per game, so you'd think that wouldn't leave much room for others to contribute, but the Bulldogs (La Tech), have four others in double figures for the season. Fresno has won four straight, but not against the offensive machine they will see here as Tech has averaged 85 ppg in their last nine games, making a mid-range pointspread very doable. LA Tech has feasted at home taking the money in 11 of their last 12, and I like them here to make it 12.
Game: Gonzaga at St. Marys (11:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on St. Marys -4 (-105) (risk 3 to win 2.9)
The Gonzaga Bulldogs have ruled the roost in the West Coast Conference, but a new player has been developing and emerging, and looks to have the upper hand here. The Gaels have been knocking on the door, but this looks to be the year they break through. For the first time the Gaels will have had that edge over the Zags as Omar Sanhan will be the best player on the floor. Sanhan is a beast to contend with inside averaging a double-double. He is not alone however. The Gaels’ twin towers also include Ben Allen, and he is at 10 points per game and 8 boards as well as a solid playmaker in Mickey O'Connell dishing out 108 assists to just 44 turnovers. The Bulldogs took a hit from graduation and are still talented, but have lost a ton of experience which will hurt them in this one vs. a team that is hungry to knock them off, and for once has the better team. I'll go with St. Mary's here.
Results: 1-2
