Game: Villonova at Syracuse (1:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Villonova +2
This is a tough match-up for Syracuse. This team seems to struggle against smaller quicker teams. Villonova is coming off of a win over Georgetown - a team that has the same trouble. Syracuse has had some team problems and this is not a vintage Syracuse team but there is talent there. The odds-makers are sending a message. Why is Syracuse only a two-point favorite against Villonova? Because they feel Nova is the better team and we agree.
Game: Clemson at Maryland (2:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Maryland -4
We have an undefeated team playing on the road and getting points? We do and we like the other side. We like teams off of losses at home as a heavy favorite. Don't put too much stock in that no-show by Maryland. They were caught looking ahead to this one. It is tough to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference on the road especially against a motivated home team and you can bet Maryland would love nothing more than to pin loss number one on the Tigers. Clemson almost got tripped up at Florida State winning by 2-points, then barely squeaked by Georgia Tech at home by one point. Guess who is on deck for Clemson? North Carolina. perfect place to back the home team.
Game: Oklahoma at Texas (3:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Texas -9
This is going to be another game with match-up problems for Oklahoma. Texas is really clicking on the offensive end and Durrant is doing it all. He is scoring on put-backs, breakaways, inside and even hitting a bunch of three-point shots. This is a high energy, high octane Texas offense and for Oklahoma - a team struggling to get into the 60-point range, this will be a most difficult game to stay even within 15-points.
Game: Penn at Columbia (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on UNDER 140.5 -110
We hit on the Penn UNDER last night and here we go again. Just 20 of the last 84 Penn games in the Ivy League have topped 140-points. That is just 23.8%. The past two years have seen only 6 of 28 or 21%. The last 18 times these teams have met the total has gone Over 140-points just three times or 16.7%. The average score in the nine games played at Columbia are actually four points less than the games played at Penn, coming in at just 120.89-points per game (PPG). Penn did not play an Ivy League game with a posted total of over 140-points the last two seasons and last night they did and went under. We see the same thing tonight.
Game: Princeton at Cornell (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on OVER 105.5 -110
Last night we got the win with the Princeton OVER and we will come right back at another soft line again tonight. Princeton has played 84 Ivy League games in the last six years and only 21 or 25% have gone below this total. The 84 games have averaged 116.57-points each and virtually even home or away. The average score against Cornell is 121.17-points on the road the last six years with only one game falling below this total. The Princeton totals have risen over the past three years as only 21% have gone under this line. We will again play the over in this one.
Game: Bradley at Indiana St. (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Indiana St. -2
What can be said about the biggest surprise in the Missouri Valley Conference this season? Indiana State has been impossible to play at home taking out Butler, Creighton, Wichita State, Purdue and Drake. Bradley has been similar as they have been magical at home but have struggled against the better teams on the road. There is no reason to go against the hot-hand especially when the value is still there.
Game: Uconn at St John's (9:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on St John's +6.5
Uconn has gotten a wake-up call now that they have played a couple of good teams at home and on the road. The Huskies still haven't won on the road. Thabeet is a great shot blocker but he is a handicap on offense, allowing teams to double team Adrien. Dyson has completely lost his confidence and won't even shoot anymore. Price is in Calhoun's doghouse and the Huskies are in complete disarray. They went scoreless at home for 9:45 against Marquette. They at one point had 18 turnovers and just three assists! Not very Uconn like. Now these young Huskies must try to get better under the bright lights of the Garden, where most haven't played before. Then there is the Wiggins issue. Wiggins had verbally commited to Saint John's then went to Uconn and asked for a scholarship and was given one. You think there is a bit of extra emotion for the Johnies in this one for their coach? Take the points.
