We rate each pick 1 to 5 units with 5 being the strongest play (read about units).
Risk 1% of your bankroll per unit (never risk more than 5% of total bankroll on any pick).
Game: Charleston at The Citadel (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on The Citadel +6.5
It appeared that Charleston was on its way to getting back into the NCAA tournament when Bobby Cremins was hired to take over. It hasn't gone quite according to plan as they will enter this game just 9-7. The biggest problem has been shooting. Charleston shoots just 43%, and gives up 42%. The problems are more specific than that. The guards just have not been able to provide any outside consistency. Leading scorer Dontaye Draper (15.6 ppg), is shooting just 35.7%. Marcus Hammond is shooting just 33.7%, and Tony White 33.3%. That has spelled trouble against a zone, which Citadel will apply, as they can't get the scoring from the big guys up-front. Citadel is not a good team, but they are considerably improved from many years of being purely awful. A sure sign of that is the fact they won back-to-back road games for the first time in seven years, and have now won three in a row. They are actually playing with confidence. We look for Citadel to han g close in this one and we will grab the points.
Game: Drake at Creighton (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Creighton -10
There is no doubt that Drake is an improved team this year, but is that good enough? It doesn't seem to translate on the difficult path of playing on the road in the MVC. Drake is just 14-73 on the road in the MVC over the last 9 years, and already this year have contributed to the loss column, as they are 0-2. Creighton has won 21 of their last 22 at home. They have beaten Drake like a drum on their home-court. Creighton has won each of the last four by double digits, and 8 of the last 9 overall. This just isn't a good place for Drake and Creighton will continue the domination.
Game: St. Peters at Rider (7:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Rider -6.5
It was going to end sooner or later for St. Peters. Kedren Clark graduated and left them as the number six ranked scorer in NCAA history. Clark averaged 26.3 ppg last year. Rider will be glad he is gone, as last year he torched them for a triple double (39,10,10). The adjustment has been hard as St. Peters has now lost 10 of 11. Rider has already matched their season win total from a year ago and is 1 point away from being undefeated at home. They should have no problem at home tonight. St. Peteres is 2-10 ATS following two straight road losses and we look for that to go to 2-11 tonight.
Game: Texas A & M at Baylor (8:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Baylor +7.5
Texas A&M is no surprise anymore. They have come a long way the past few years, and are a deep talented, experienced team. Baylor was only allowed to play conference games last season and started 0-6. They recovered as the new faces began to gel and finished 4-6 running off 5 ATS wins in a row. This team has grown up in a hurry, and bring an unexpected 10-4 mark into this game. There is always one team that for what ever reason, becomes a thorn in the side of a program, and Baylor is that team to A&M. Last year the talent differential was enormous, yet Baylor almost won both games before losing by 2, and 4 points, but covering both. You actually have to go back to 2002-03 to find the last time A&M covered in a game against Baylor, and on the road, they have not covered a game at Baylor since March 5th of 1998! We will ride the points with an improving Baylor team at home.
Game: Boston College at Wake Forest (9:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Wake Forest +3
Boston College will bring its 10-4 mark to Wake Forest who is currently sitting at 9-5, but 7-1 at home. Wake's lone home-court loss was to Georgia, but they got the money. The ACC is a very difficult conference to go out on the road and get a win. This is a young, but improving Wake Forest team, and they have been extremely tough at home, but being young, has struggled at times on the road. Boston College has had an up and down season. They barely squeaked past Northeastern at home by 5, and lost to both Vermont, and Duquense at home. We like Wake tonight where they have outplayed everyone, in their own building, so the points is the way to go here.
