Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Western Kentucky at Soouth Alabama (6:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Western Kentucky -2.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
The upstart Jags come in at 11-4 overall and are on a three-game toot, culminating with an overtime win over Florida International. Their record is a product of a soft schedule, and they have severely played under the line as they are just 5-8 ATS. They are getting a lot of push in the line because they beat Florida Int., but one game does not a season make and the Hilltoppers are always found at or near the top of the Sun Belt standings when all is said and done. The Hilltoppers are winless on the road, but the three travel dates occurred in Louisville, LSU and South Carolina, so they will be up for this one. They are getting plenty of line value as they have taken the money in five of their last seven and own six straight ATS wins in the conference, while Jags sport a money-burning 6-20 ATS mark in their last 26 at home. Western Kentucky gets the nod here.
Game: Loyola, Illinois at Cleveland State (7:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 5 units on Loyola, Illinois +9 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6)
The Ramblers are getting dissed by the oddsmakers as they carry an 11-4 mark on the season, despite playing at Cleveland State, entering this one at just 5-10. The oddsmakers like the tough Vikings’ early slate, but you still have to win a credible game to be spotting lofty numbers. The Vikings’ two non-Div1 wins, and three cupcakes in the win column aren't justified here as a chalky favorite. The Ramblers are getting balanced scoring from eight players, are getting shooting and can knock down 3's and should be able to hang around here as indicated by their 17-8-1 ATS mark vs. teams with a winning percentage south of .400. The Vikings are just 1-4 ATS in their last five as home chalk, and Loyola is 6-1 ATS in last seven trips to Cleveland. I'll go with Loyola, Chicago here.
