Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Delaware at James Madison (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 5 units on Delaware +9 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6)
James Madison comes in here as a .500 team at 6-6 but the six wins are against Fordham, Gardner Webb, Norfolk State, MD Baltimore County, North Carolina Central, and Florida International. These six teams have gone a combined 13-66 on the season, so I'm not sure how JMU is justified here as a big home chalk, especially when their margin in these games was just over 12 a contest on average. Delaware isn't a great team, but they certainly bring more to the table than the cupcake wins JMU has on the season, and lost to everyone else. I'll go with Delaware here as a very live dog.
Game: Marist at St. Peters (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 5 units on St. Peters -9.5 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6)
The Red Foxes come into this one at just 1-11, and it could be excused if they were a low-level conference team, getting hammered by big teams, but that hasn't been the case. Marist has only had one game that would be considered over their level and that was Rutgers. The Peacocks aren't going to open any eyes, but did play Seton Hall to a 2-point game, and beat Iona as well as hanging tough against a very good Siena team. The Red Foxes don't put many in the win column, but when they do they have come back to go 1-7-1 ATS after a straight-up win. I'll go with St. Peters here who is 9-1 ATS in their last 10 vs. a team with a losing record.
Game: Samford at Davidson (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 5 units on Samford +10 (-110) (risk 5 to win 4.6)
The Davidson Wildcats put themselves on the NCAAB map with huge showings in the NCAA Tournament. As a result, they get a lot of reputation tax in their lines as they have become visible in the public eye. Unfortunately, at 6-8 they are learning that life on the court without Stephen Curry and Andrew Lovedale is quite challenging. The Bulldogs are an under-the-radar 4-2 ATS as a dog and one of the ATS losses was by a single point and they have enough to stay in this one. The Bulldogs go eight deep and all shoot the ball well, and seven of the eight can step out and knock down 3's, giving them some merit as a dog where they are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 in the role of a pup. The Wildcats’ reputation is making them losers against the number at just 3-9-2 ATS in their last 14 at home as a chalk. I'll go with Samford in this one.
Game: Tennessee Tech at Eastern Illinois (8:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 5 units on Eastern Illinois -190 (moneyline) (risk 5 to win 2.6)
The Golden Eagles are on a roll winning four straight, or are they? They took out two teams that aren't even on the Div-1 level and two others that are 10-14 combined, so I’m not buying them as a viable winner here. There are not many big wins on the Panthers’ side either, but they are at home where they are 6-1-1 ATS as a favorite of 6.5 or less. Tennessee Tech is just 1-8 ATS in their last nine vs. a team with a winning record. The favorite has covered four of the last five in this series. I think this one has a chance to be close, but I do think that Eastern Illinois will come away the winner, so I'll play them on the moneyline.
