Final Four Predictions - February 27, 2008

Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Florida at Georgia (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Florida +1.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
Florida is obviously used to being in the Big Dance of late but their fate this season is still to be determined. The scored a big win over South Carolina last Wednesday. They need to keep winning to keep their hopes alive. This is a good opportunity vs. a Georgia club that is just 3-9 in conference games and under .500 on the year. The Bulldogs have dropped eight of their last nine games overall yet are favored here over a better team. Under Billy Donovan, the Gators are 35-21 ATS in close games (lined at +3 to -3). We think Florida is better, and extremely motivated and we think they take this one.
Game: Minnesota at Purdue (9:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 2 units on Minnesota +8 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8)
We liken this Boilermaker squad to that of UConn. They have piled up the wins, but the lopsided games are few and far between. They have destroyed conference bottom feeders Penn State by 14 and 22 points and Northwestern by 15. They have beaten no other team in the conference by more than 8 points and the Gophers have more to offer than Penn State and Northwestern. Minnesota is deep and they get 10 steals a game. They can also get hot from beyond the arc. Purdue is actually getting out-shot on the season, and have fared poorly vs teams with a losing road record covering just two of their last 10. On the other hand, the Gophers have been 5-1 ATS on the road in Big-10 play. We like the Gophers to hang tough here.
Game: W. Virginia at Depaul (9:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on W. Virginia -4.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
DePaul has dropped seven of their last eight games, seemingly ready to pack it in. That kind of attitude doesn't bode well when facing a tenacious defensive team like West Virginia. The Mountaineers are holding road foes to just 72.8 ppg. We like that matchup against the Blue Demons who are hitting just 39.1% from the field in their last five games. West Virginia is 23-12 ATS the past two seasons as a favorite and 22-9 ATS off a home win the past three seasons. Mountaineers too much here.
