Free College Basketball Pick - February 25, 2008

Today we have two picks including one we like a lot - a 4-unit selection. We also continue our ongoing look at the upcoming tourney...

Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:

Game: Marquette at Villonova (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Marquette -2 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)

Nova is fresh off big win vs. UConn and this line tells you all that is needed to know. Nova was a slight favorite vs Connecticut but is now a slight dog vs Marquette? Marquette has lost to Louisville twice, UConn, Notre Dame and Duke, and otherwise has dominated the middle of the conference and below. They have now won four straight. The Golden Eagles are the better team, and also the hotter team, having won four straight, and covering five in a row. Their backcourt is healthy now. Nova got big lift vs. UConn when Corey Stokes, who averages under 5 points per game and and shooting under 30% from three, connected on four three's in a row, finishing with a career high of 18. A fluke? Absolutely. We like Marquette to make it five straight tonight.

Game: San Diego at St Mary's (10:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on St Mary's -11.5 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8)

It's time for payback. St. Mary's played an awful game at San Diego earlier this season. Coming off a Bracket Buster loss to Kent State this team will be fired up in their home finale. A win here assures the Gaels of finishing no worse than second in the conference, and getting a first round bye in the conference tourney. The Gaels are 5-1 ATS at home in conference play, and have three wins by 25+ on their home-court. We can see this one getting up to the 20 point range and St. Mary's closing out at home with a bang.

Results: 1-1

Is there any conference better than the Big East this year? Pittsburgh will take their third crack at getting to the 20-win plateau and we think they get there at home vs. #18 Louisville. Pittsburgh g...

Nevada has slipped seriously since the good ole days of four straight league titles. They are solid at home this season (11-2) but weak on the road (6-7). The Salukis are 11-2 at home and 7-4 ATS...

The Wildcats have been roaring with 16-straight in the win column and this one looks easy as Winthrop lost most key pieces from a 29-5 NCAA tourney team last season. Not so fast! Davidson has not exac...

This young Tech team has hit the wall, dropping three in a row. What was once a team hitting 48% and 38% from beyond the arc, has only shot 41.9% and 27.4% in the three losses. Virginia finally b...

Drexel is just 11-16 and 4-11 in conference play. They are shooting 40.9% from the field and scoring just over 60 ppg. On the road it get's worse (58.1 ppg on 40.4%). That spells real trouble when...
