Basketball Picks - February 23, 2009
We missed the mark on our lone play last night. Today we are back with a pair of premium college hoops picks from a light schedule.
Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Charleston at Tennessee Chattanooga (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 2 units on Tennessee Chattanooga -140 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 1.4)
Tennessee Chattanooga has really been rolling with the start of conference play as they are now 11-3 overall in their last 14 games. Their only home loss was at the hands of Davidson, who has beaten just about everyone over the last couple years. Some credit has to go to a very tough out-of-conference schedule that included a 21-win Niagara team, Tennessee, USC, Missouri, Memphis, and Alabama. It certainly got the Moccasins used to playing tougher teams. Charleston has had a good season with 20 wins. They had a big win against Davidson on the road, but otherwise have road conference wins over all the poor teams in the conference. They simply don't have a road win against any team sitting higher than fourth place in either the East or the West of the Southern Conference. The Mocs are playing their best basketball of the season, so I'll take them on the moneyline in this one.
Game: Western Carolina at Wofford (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 2 units on Wofford -155 (moneyline) (risk 2 to win 1.3)
The Western Carolina Catamounts are over .500 for the season, but that has nothing to do how they have played on the road, where they stand at just 3-10 on the season. When you look at the two teams they beat on the road within the conference, it doesn't offer much hope here. They have wins over North Carolina, Greensboro, who is 4-23 on the season, and Furman who stands at 6-20. Wofford has played much better of late winning four of their last five, with the only loss coming against, you guessed it, Davidson. The only three home losses have come against the top three teams in the conference, Davidson, Tennessee-Chattanooga, and Charleston. This certainly doesn't look like the place for their fourth win. I'll take Wofford on the moneyline here.
Results: 1-1
