Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Syracuse at South Florida (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Syracuse -4.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
South Florida's transition into the Big East has been a nightmare. They are just 5-38 SU, and have lost 10 straight this season. They have been awful in this spot as they have posted an 0-8 ATS mark when getting 5.5 or less at home. They have been getting blown out at home this season against the upper-tier of the conference. After opening with a win over Rutgers they have now gone down at home by double-digits to every team, and Syracuse should continue that streak. The Cuse at 16-8, sits firmly on the bubble for the NCAA tournament and a bad performance here could spell doom as the Orange have games remaining with Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Marquette and Pittsburgh. They certainly know what lies ahead, so this game will not be taken lightly.
Game: Saint Bonaventure at Saint Joesph's (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Saint Bonaventure +18.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
After a 4-4 start the Hawks went on an 11-1 run, but have cooled off as they have dropped their last two. During the early part of the streak there were a lot of blow-out wins, but those have been exchanged for 1, 2, and 4-point wins toward the end. Saint Bonaventure brings an 0-10 mark to Philadelphia, and have yet to break through on the road. They have done one thing however, and that is keeping a respectable distance between themselves and their opponent. They have stayed within tonight's number in all but one road game in their last seven, including a stop at Atlantic 10 king-pin Xavier, and all season long have only dropped two by this many points. The odds-makers are making you pay a premium to grab the Hawks, and we will ride the line value which resides with the Bonnie's.
Game: Davidson at North Carolina-greensboro (7:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Davidson -6 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Davidson is in a world of their own when it comes to the Southern Conference. They are a top-conference team playing in a much inferior conference, and have now gone 42-1 in their last 43 games played against Southern Conference competition. The last two years they have played 15 conference road games and have won them all by an average margin of 15.6 points per game. They have been posted as less than a double-digit favorite in eight of these games and are a perfect 8-0 ATS. Overall they are 22-5 ATS on the road the past two years and it is one small conference team that has snuck through the cracks on the odds-makers. North Carolina-Greensboro has now dropped three straight and not playing very well. They are 9-23 ATS after a straight-up loss and have not fared very well against the good teams as they are just 2-7 ATS against a team with a winning record. Davidson by double-digits.
Game: Troy at Western Kentucky (8:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Troy +18.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
The Hilltoppers have run off nine straight and will look to post their 20th win of the season tonight. Like so many teams putting a lot of games in the win column, the Hilltoppers have not been immune to large pointspreads, but they carry a large degree of difficulty with them. They have been asked to cover 15 or more five times this season, and have been successful just once, barely making it, covering by a single point. Troy has not been a good team this season, but they did manage to stay within four of the Hilltoppers at home, and lost to conference co-leader Southern Alabama on the road by just by just 11. They have also covered two of their three games as a double-digit dog. Like the men from Troy to hang inside this lofty number.
Game: Houston at Memphis (9:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Houston +16 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Memphis remains the only unblemished team in the country at 23-0, and has won 40 in a row at home. One team that has given the Tigers fits over the years on their home court has been Houston. Houston has actually won here in three of the last five years, as a -14, -12.5, and -7 point underdog. Houston has actually covered eight of the last nine between these teams played in Memphis, and this Houston team has now gone 45 games without losing by this amount of points, and Memphis in the past nine years has not beaten Houston by more than 13. There is a premium to play on undefeated teams (recall New England Patriots) and this is just too many points. The value rides with the Cougars.
Results: 1-4
