March Madness Pick - February 12, 2010We finished 1-2 last night. Today we are back with a trio of college hoops plays as we are 143-120 for +48 units over the last two and a half months.
 Today's NCAA Basketball Picks: The Penn Quakers take on an unfamiliar role, that of a huge dog in this one. This team was getting steamrolled by everyone early, but has found the win column in the Ivy a few times, and their last two as a huge dog, have come up a winner. Cornell has ambushed the Ivy the last several years, and has taken the place of Penn in that regard. Penn does have some pride remaining, is getting better and have stepped-up vs. Cornell to go 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine meetings. This one looks a bit on the high side, so I'll back Penn in this one.Game: Marist at Canisius (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on Marist +14.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6) It would be very easy to dismiss the Marist Red Foxes here, as they are just 1-23 on the season. Looking closer shows this club with a 6-2 ATS mark as a dog of 14 plus, so the poor record is getting extra attention from the books realizing to get someone to pull the trigger on a 1-23 team, it has to be overly generous. Canisius does not find themselves in the position of a huge favorite very often. This decade they have been a 7.5 favorite only 14 times and haven't worn it well, going just 3-11 ATS. This isn't exactly a top-level team, and their biggest win this season has been by 16 points. Marist has been a lot more competitive as a big dog than the odds here indicate. I'll go with Marist in this one.Game: Columbia at Princeton (7:00 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on Columbia +13.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7) The Princeton Tigers have found their way back to the top of the Ivy League, and all of their games have been on the road. It would be easy to like them here coming home, but with a total of under 110, the steep double-digit line is definitely more like a 20-point line in a normal scoring game. Both of these teams work with methodical offenses that reduce the shots taken, and shorten the game. It is one of the reasons why Princeton has had extreme difficulty taking down large numbers, and the result has been 1-10 ATS at home giving 13 or more. It is also the reason slowdown Columbia is 19-7 ATS as a dog of 13 or more. I'm going with Columbia in this one. Results: 2-1 NCAA Basketball Picks Resources:
