Ncaa March Madness Brackets - February 08, 2010

We hit with just one of our three college hoops plays yesterday. We put that in the rearview and move on to today's action and three more premium CBB picks. Over the last two months, we are 137-116 on the college hoops floor, good for +44 units.

Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:

Game: Niagara at Rider (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Rider +1.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

Niagara has had a few good seasons in the MAAC, but they are short of what those teams accomplished this season, but the reputation lives on. Niagara picked up a lot of soft wins early, but the reality is setting in as conference play has been the order of the day. Niagara is just 3-6 straight-up over their last nine games. The Broncos are riding a streak that shows them winning three of their last four, and won on the road at Niagara earlier on. The Purple Eagles are just 2-8 ATS off an ATS win, while the Broncos riding high as a home dog of 6.5 or less with a 10-4 ATS mark. I'll go with Rider in this one.

The Citadel has relied on the scoring of Cameron Wells, but Wells has really been struggling shooting 15% over his last two games, connecting on just one from deep. That is ok against some lesser Southern Conference teams at home, but not on the road vs. a good Charleston team that is 10-0 at home. Charleston is 10-2 over their last 12 games, and the two losses occurred when Jeremy Simmons was on the sidelines with his 12 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. Charleston beat North Carolina here, and eight of their other nine home games were won by 9 points or more. They are tough at home and are now 7-0 ATS in their last seven here. I'll go with Charleston in this one.

Illinois Chicago has had its moments in the sun, but this year certainly isn't one of them. The Flames have been goosed on the road, heading into this one with a 0-11 mark on the highway. The Flames have not been as disastrous as that mark may indicate. They have only suffered one huge loss in five conference road games and that was to Wright State. Their other four roadies in conference play have shown losses of 9, 7, 5 and 3 points, and they got a lift in their last game - a win over Youngstown State. They also have a revenge motive here for a 6-point loss to Valpo at home. Valpo has covered seven straight games, but the winning margin in six of their last seven wins has been 4, 5, 6, 7, 4 and 1 point, so they aren't blowing teams out. I'll go with Illinois Chicago in this one.
