Ncaa Final Four Picks - February 03, 2008
We finished 2-3 yesterday, giving back a few units for only our 11th losing day out of the last 42. CBB picks are still up +63.5 units (128-79) for 62% over the last five weeks.
Three early-afternoon picks today.
Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: George Washington at Temple (2:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Temple -10.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Karl Hobbs has had some very good teams at George Washington, but this isn't one of them. The Colonials are 0-8 on the road and have lost by an average of over 20 points a game. They shoot just 41% on the season, and they have shot under 40% in five of their last seven road games. Temple has come on lately winning 4-of-5, and this team is certainly capable as we saw in a 19-point win at home over Xavier. The Owls are shooting 46% while allowing just 41% against them and that will spell trouble against a Colonial team that just can't put the ball in the basket.
Game: Loyola Maryland at Canisius (2:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Canisius +10 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Canisius may have only four wins, but they all have come at home and their play lately is certainly at a higher level than early on. They logged a 28-point win at home over Fairfield in their last game, and also knocked off Niagara in convincing fashion in their home game before that. This is a team that has struggled on the road, but has found life at home. Loyola has run off five straight, but they have had trouble on the road, at 4-8. Their narrow wins on the road over Saint Peter's by five points and Fairfield by four, indicate Canisius can stay close here, so we will back the home dog.
Game: Wisconsin at Minnesota (2:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Wisconsin -1.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The Golden Gophers opened up at 10-1, but we did not buy into the hype that this program has turned the corner. They have since been humbled as they began to get into the meat of their schedule and have been 3-5 since. The three wins have been against the worst three teams in the Big-10 in Northwestern, Michigan and Penn State. Wisconsin has just three losses on the season and all three to ranked teams in Marquette, Duke and Purdue. This is one of the nation's best defending teams as the Badgers allow a stingy 38% from the field and 30% from behind the arc while holding opponents to 54 points per game. Minnesota is just 1-5 ATS in their last six at home against teams with a road winning percentage of .600+. The Badgers have played well here and have won in each of the last two years. We look for them to make it three today.
Results: 2-1
