Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Air Force at Wake Forest (2:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Wake Forest -800 (moneyline) (risk 4 to win 0.5)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 119 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Air Force travels cross-country here to face a Wake team that is a perfect 7-0 at home and coming off three straight wins. The Demon Deacons have won 11 in a row at home dating back to last season. Air Force is just 1-3 on the road this year. They are averaging just 63 ppg (57 on the road). Their strength is their defense but Wake, averaging 75 ppg at home, will score on them. AFU is just 18-45 on the road vs. winning teams the past decade including 9-30 vs. teams with a winning percentage of 60% or better. The Falcons road games are averaging 115.4 ppg but Wake home games have averaged 134.1. This one should easily go OVER the total with Wake coming away with the win.
Game: Tennessee State at Illinois (4:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Tennessee State +22 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The Tigers only have three wins, but have been on the road just about the entire season, playing the likes of Indiana (11-1), Vanderbilt (12-0) and Akron (10-2), as well as Georgia Tech. None of those big-time teams have beaten Tennessee State by more than 14. The return of Bruce Price off an ACL injury last year, and his withdrawl from the NBA draft has given them a bonafide bigtime player. Price is scoring 20.8 ppg, getting 4.5 rpg, and dishing out 5.0 apg. Jarrell Houston, a Mississippi State transfer is adding 10 ppg, and 6-9 Gerald Robinson has really improved, scoring 17.6 ppg. Add in Ladarious Weaver and his 42% three-point shooting and the Tigers can score. Offense is not the game for the Illini, as they are averaging just 67 ppg. With a competent offensive opponent, this huge spread will be most difficult to overcome so we will grab the Tigers to stay close again on the road.
Game: Montana State at Oregon State (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Oregon State -235 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 1.3)
The Bobcats are yet to break through on the road this year. Last year they owned wins away from their homecourt vs. the likes of Idaho, E. Washington, and N. Colorado, and has had similar fates over the past three years. The Bobcats own a 9-32 SU road mark. The Bobcats venture out on the road each year to play some top conference teams, but since 1997, they have won just once vs these conference teams. The Beavers won't be a Pac-10 top team, but they certainly have enough to take down a Bobcat team that is in over their head on the road.
