Free Basketball Picks - December 01, 2009
We racked-up another winning night on the CBB floor going 2-1. Last night's winner lifted us to 61% (22-14) over the past week and a half. Three premium picks are on tonight's menu.
Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Chattanooga at Jacksonville State (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Jacksonville State -6.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Chattanooga suffered a lot of losses from a year ago as the top four scorers have departed. They have won three games, but they were certainly very soft, confidence-building type games, but the reality is that this team is going to struggle early as they regain identity and experience. Jacksonville State showed signs of getting it together, dropping a close one vs. Georgia by just three. Trenton Marshall has delivered 17.4 points per game. James Green in his second year has shown the ability to make great strides wherever he has been. He turned Southern Miss from 12-15 to 22-11, and Mississippi Valley State from 9-19 to 18-16, so this team will grow from their 11-17 mark a year ago. Marshall just adds to the pieces in place as he was an All-American JUCO and has emerged their best player. I like Jacksonville State here who is simply ahead of where the Mocs are right now by a great distance.
Game: Colorado State at Northern Colorado (9:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Northern Colorado -6.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
At first glance one would look at this game and see Colorado State taking points from the no-name Bears, but there is a reason. The Bears were heartbreak hotel a year ago losing nine games by five points or less, in spite of that the Bears still managed to go 8-8 in the conference. The Bears are off to a 6-0 start and have a solid backcourt and supporting cast, with depth to give them the edge here. Colorado State is expected to battle with Air Force for the bottom rung of the standings in the Mountain West, and that may be bad news for the Rams here. The Bears played Air Force and destroyed them on the road by a 70-46 count! That doesn't bode well for the Rams who have to travel for this one. I'll go with the under-the-radar Northern Colorado Bears here.
Game: Santa Clara at Cal Santa Barbara (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Cal Santa Barbara -9.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
This won't be a big year for Santa Clara as they lost a lot of pieces, including all-conference center John Bryant. The evidence of that statement is mounting early with lopsided losses to average teams and struggles against teams they should be beating easily. The opposite can be said about UCSB as they have perhaps the greatest depth ever under the 12 years of coaching here by Bob Williams, and should be in a dog fight with Long Beach for top honors in the Big West. The Gauchos are getting contributions from a lot of places and all of the top five scorers can fill-it as the lowest shooting percentage amongst the five is 46.2%, and they already have proven they can drain the three-pointers with five players hitting over 47%. There is too much firepower here vs. a team searching for an identity. Santa Barbara gets the call here.
