Basketball Picks - April 06, 2009

The NCAAB Championship game is upon us as the upstart Michigan State Spartans will take-on the Tar Heels of North Carolina.

After a rough starte, we have finished very strong, capped off with a win on our Final Four picks. Over the last 16 college hoops selections, we are hitting 63%, good for +14.6 units. Today, we have one play in the Championship Game.

Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:

Game: Michigan State vs. North Carolina (9:15 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 153 -105 (risk 3 to win 2.9)

The Tar Heels were expected to be here while the Spartans are the surprise. It's not that big of a surprise to see a #2 seed in the Championship game. But the way Michigan State got here surprised many as they notched big wins over two teams they weren't expected to beat (Louisville, UConn). The Spartans have landed here by playing great defense. Since Big-10 play started back with the New Year, covering 26 games, the Spartans have played in just one game that would have gone over this total. That represents just 3.8% of their games. The Tar Heels are a team that has been offensively explosive. They did not commit on the defensive end during the regular season but that has changed as the postseason has arrived. Five of their last six games have gone UNDER the mark as they have kicked up the defense in pursuit of the championship. Michigan State has now played to a 59-39-1 mark to the UNDER in their last 99 games. Under Tom Izzo, this team is 47-27 UNDER as an underdog. The Heels have played six of their last seven against teams with a .600 or higher winning percentage to the UNDER. Many think this might be a track meet and while there will be a lot of scoring, I don't think it'll reach this number.
