Today's NCAA Basketball Picks:
Game: Michigan State vs. Butler (6:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Michigan State +1.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
These teams are certainly of high caliber, but also unlikely Final Four participants. Butler is a longstanding powerful mid-major, and has surprised a lot of people making their run here. Michigan State has been a fixture deep into the tournament, but when they lost their leading scorer and assist leader in Kalin Lucas, no one expected them to be here either. There is a huge coaching experience edge to Michigan State here as Coach Izzo has led the Spartans to a 26-11 ATS mark in NCAA tournament action over the last 11 years, and has been 5-1 ATS as a dog. The Bulldogs are young and talented, but this is a brand new experience at the Final Four, so the experience factor should be the big player here. I'll go with Michigan State.
Game: West Virginia vs. Duke (8:45 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on West Virginia +2.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The Duke Blue Devils are the lone No. 1 seed to make it to the Final Four and they have had a fairly easy path to get here, especially playing a Purdue team without Robbie Hummel. They also beat a good Baylor team, but one that played the top three teams in the Big-12 just once each, and lost all three, eventually losing for a fourth time to Kansas State in the Big-12 tournament. West Virginia hit a soft spot where they went 2-3, but have won and covered every game in the tournament and are 16-0 when you remove their mini-slump mentioned above. This team has also gone 8-4 ATS as a dog over the last three years and is 12-2-1 ATS in their last 15 NCAA Tournament games. I like West Virginia in this one.
