Basketball Gambling Pick - May 20, 2009Another day, another NBA winner! We knocked-out another TOTALS winner last night on the Nuggets vs. Lakers game. We are now 23-4 on our OVER/UNDER picks in the playoffs. With last night's win, our NBA Playoffs run is now steamrolling along at 60%, 43-29 for +46.8 units. Since mid-November, we are 287-222 for +139 units! Today, we are back with another two TOTALS picks. ![]() Today's NBA Basketball Picks: The Cavs have really turned it up on the defensive end in the playoffs. The best defense in the NBA in points allowed during the regular season has turning it up a notch further, with no team scoring more than 85 points against them through eight games. Their last 11 home games, not counting the season finale, has seen no team score more than 87 against them on their home floor. The Magic haven't been a consistent offensive team, and for the most part were missing open looks from beyond the arc vs. the Celtics. Those shots will be highly contested vs. the Cavs in this series. The offensive inconsistency, by the high numer of 3's taken by this team has led them to playing 52-20 to the UNDER the last 72 times they scored 100 in their previous game. Their recent trend has also been more defense-oriented as overall, they have played 22 of their last 30 to the UNDER. The Cavs are at their defensive best when they have had some time off. When playing with 3+ days rest, they have come out and played 20 of their last 28 UNDER. Orlando is 26-17 UNDER this season when facing a winning opponent. They are 29-11 UNDER vs. teams that average 100+ ppg. This is the playoffs, and the best defense is playing at home, and will impose its will on the game. I like this one to go UNDER the total.Game: Orlando at Cleveland (8:35 PM Eastern) Pick: 4 units on First Half UNDER 93 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6) Orlando games during the regular season averaged 99 first-half points. During the playoffs that has dropped to 92 and during the last five games, it's down to 89! Sense a trend? They now face the best defensive team in the league who has also seen a drop from their already crazy-low regular season averages. Cleveland games have dropped from 94.3 first-half points to 89 during the playoffs. They have held their first two opponents to just 39.9 in the first-half. Orlando is a top offensive team but they are going to struggle mightily vs. the Cavs defense. Heck, Philly and Boston (without Garnett), neither of which are great defensive teams, were able to shave 4 points per game off Orlando's offensive average and make them look like an average offensive team. What will Cleveland be able to do? This is a low first-half total but no worries. The Cavs are 23-14 UNDER in the first-half this season when the total is between 90 and 95. Orlando is 12-4 UNDER this season in the first-half when facing a team at .700 or better. I like this one to play in the 80s in the first-half. ![]() NBA Basketball Picks Resources:
