Basketball Pick - May 06, 2009We had a perfect night on the NBA hardwood last night going 3-0 for +9.1 units. This adds to our incredible NBA playoff total of 31-22, good for over $2,700 for our $100 per-unit players (+27.9 units). Since April we have gone 54-37 for +46.9 units. Over the last six months our NBA picks are up +120 units at 275-215.
 Today's NBA Basketball Picks: The Magic are a very good and somewhat underrated team. Despite that fact, I like the Celtics here in game two. The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers became just the 14th and 15th teams to lose game one at home in the conference semi-final round since 1991. The prior 13 teams came back to win game two 77% of the time. The Celtics are a team of pride and that was witnessed in the second half of game one, coming back from 27 down to nearly win the game. I expect the Celtics to come out with fire in their bellies here as they seem to play best with their backs against the wall when folks are counting them out. Despite the loss of Kevin Garnett, the Celtics are still 12-2 at home in their last 14 games and have been strong off an ATS loss having gone 7-1 ATS after an ATS loss. The Celts are 31-14 ATS the past three seasons revenging a home loss and I expect them to get their revenge here and even up this series. I also like the UNDER in the first-half of this game, as I did last game. Boston is about defense and that led them to the NBA Title a year ago. In a must win situation, I look for them to come out strong and intense on the defensive end to begin this game. Orlando is 27-16 UNDER in the first half this season when coming off a road game and they aer 23-14 UNDER vs. winning teams. They are also 15-6 UNDER vs. teams that shoot 46%+ from the field. Meanwhile Boston is 41-33 UNDER in the first-half as a favorite. The Celtics are 16-6 UNDER in the first-half this season revenging a loss. Boston is also 29-12 UNDER vs. teams that average 100+ ppg and 14-2 UNDER in the first-half vs. teams at .700 or better. Take the Celtics and the first-half UNDER here.Game: Houston at Los Angeles Lakers (10:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 2 units on Los Angeles Lakers -10 (-110) (risk 2 to win 1.8) The Lakers got a rude awakening in game one as they were beaten rather soundly by the Rockets. It was a massive upset as the Lakers were laying 9 points but lost by 8. The problem was that Kobe took 31 shots, and was off, and the rest of the starters took just 40 combined. When they got open looks they just weren't able to connect and Bryant himself was just 1-7 beyond the arc. I look for the Lakers to be "awake" in this game and for Kobe to get everyone involved early and get others going so they can knock down some shots. The Rockets played about as good as they could play, but that always looks to be the case when your opponent is struggling to shoot the ball. Credit can certainly be given to the Rocket defense, but even when the Lakers went to the line they hit just 63% with no one on them at all. It was simply an off-night for the Lakers who struggled to shake off the rust from their long layoff. The Rockets have not been a good team on the road and they have not been a good team off an ATS win as they have followed with an 11-24 ATS mark off of an ATS win. The Lakers are too good not to come out with their "A" game in this one and that game is more than capable of a 10+ point win. The Lakers get the win and cover here.
