![]() Today's NBA Basketball Picks: The Boston Celtics had a riveting series vs. the Bulls where they prevailed four games to three by winning convincingly at home in game seven by 10 points. After an early scare when they were down 2-1 to Philly, the Magic closed out the Sixers on the road in six. Their last win was impressive as it was without D. Howard. Going into their final game vs. Chicago, many felt that the four overtime games, lack of Kevin Garnett and much bench depth would do in the Celtics in game seven. But this team is a winner and won't go down that easy. Remember last season this team was taken to seven games by the Hawks and many people wrote them off as a pretender after that. We know how it ended last season. Boston is 38-7 at home on the season and the Celtics have had the hammer vs. the Magic in Boston, where they are 19-5 ATS in the last 24 meetings. The Celts are also 38-18 ATS coming off a double-digit home win the past two seasons. I like Boston to get it done tonight. I also like the first-half UNDER in this game. The Magic and the Celtics are defense-first teams, and I look for them each to come out, as they have all season against each other, and bring their "A" game which is defense. These teams met four times in the regular season, and the first half was very defensive as were the games as a whole. The last three meetings saw these teams play to a first-half total high of 86 points! I look for more of the same tonight. The Celtics are 23-14 UNDER in the first half this season coming off a home win and 23-13 UNDER after a win by 10+ points. They are also 26-13 UNDER in the first half this season vs. winning teams. That includes a stellar 13-2 UNDER mark vs. teams at .700 or better! Orlando is 43-40 UNDER since last season in the first half in games vs. winnning teams. They are also 13-5 UNDER in their last 18 games this season vs. winning teams! I will go with the first-half UNDER and Boston for the game in this one.Game: Houston at Los Angeles Lakers (10:30 PM Eastern) Pick: 3 units on First Half UNDER 96.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7) The Lakers came within two points of a sweep over the Jazz, and although much is made of the Lakers' offense, they beat the Jazz on the defensive end as they held the high-scoring Jazz to 92.7 points per game in the last three. LA learned a valuable lesson last year playing the Celtics in The Finals. That lesson was that you have to exert yourself on the defensive end if you’re going the distance. This is top-of-mind for the Lakers this postseason. The Rockets are a defensive-first team, and know that they can't get into a track meet with the Lakers or they will get blown out. I expect them to be physical here early, and send the Lakers a message that driving into the lane is going to result in some bruises. The last two times these teams met, the first halves played out exactly that way, with both teams averaging 89.5 ppg in the first half. This one expects to be played in similar fashion. Houston is 72-51 UNDER in the first-half the past three seasons when facing a winning team. In post-All Star break play, they are 51-14 UNDER when facing a team at .700 or better! With Houston's history and defensive focus, and LA's new focus on defense, I look for the first half to finish UNDER the total. Results: 2-1 ![]() NBA Basketball Picks Resources:
