Today's NBA Basketball Picks:
Game: Boston at Atlanta (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Boston -8 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
While thus far this has been a home team series, with each team winning and covering all games at home, we look for things to turn here. The Pistons gained control of their series with their game five win, and rode their momentum to a game six blowout win over the Sixers. We look for the same to happen here. With five games under their belts, the Celtics, a much much better team than Atlanta, should have the Hawks figured out. No more surprises. Just the true nature of the teams coming to the forefront. The Celtics were caught off-guard in the two games in Atlanta by Joe Johnson and too a lesser extent, Josh Smith. A better Hawks team didn't beat Boston in those two games - two guys who put together amazing efforts did. The Celtics made a concerted effort to undermine these guys in game five and were successful. They will again challenge the rest of the Hawks team to beat them and they will not be able to come through. Boston has covered the spread in 20 of their last 26 vs. losing teams and they are 14-2 ATS this season off a home blowout win by 20+ points. We look for a convincing Celtics win here.
Game: Houston at Utah (9:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on First Half UNDER 89 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The first five games in this series have averaged 82.4 points per game. Not a single one of the first five games has reached this number in the first half. The oddsmakers have barely adjusted as all five first-half totals have been set in the 89-91.5 range. We look for more of the same here. These are both low-scoring teams and teams committed to defense, especially in the first half. The playoff atmosphere has only intensified their tendencies. Houston is 48-38 UNDER in the first half this season including 20-10 UNDER when coming of a double-digit win. When they are not turning the ball over, it's even better. When they have committed under 15 turnovers per game for three straight games, they are an incredible 19-4 UNDER in the first half the next game! Utah the past two seasons is 51-35 UNDER in the first half after an UNDER and 27-15 UNDER after two straight UNDERs. The Jazz are 40-20 in their last 60 games revenging an embarrassing 20+ point loss. They are 15-2 UNDER in the first half the last 17 times in close-out games. Everything here points to another low-scoring game and we'll take the first-half UNDER.
