Nba Prediction - March 30, 2008

Strange profitable night in the NBA as we posted a 1-0-2 night for +3.6 units, although hopefully you won on a New Jersey line that closed at +7.5. Today we like three picks...

Today's NBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Houston at San Antonio (1:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on San Antonio -6.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

The mindset of winning can overcome a lot of things, and Houston is a case in point. They ran off one of the best streaks in NBA history, but when Yao went down, everyone immediately thought it would end. It didn't, because the confidence and mental mindset was that they could not lose. Then the Celtics broke through, and the mindset was then lost/ The loss of Yao would show its true effect on this team. Boston beat them by 20 and then they get beat by 21 at New Orleans and lost by 9 at Phoenix. Not only is the mindset different, they aren't the same team. That win streak has to be a distant memory and in its place has come doubt. Speaking of mindset, San Antonio is in a very positive one right now. They have run off six straight, five by double-digits, winnin gon average by 15.2 ppg. One thing for sure about San Antonio, it all starts with their commitment to defense. Here is a perfect example of that. They ran off 11 in a row, holding 10 of 11 teams under 100 points. They ran off four in a row and held all four teams under 100. They ran off five in a row, holding all five teams to under 100. They ran off six in a row, in their current streak, and no one has scored 100. During their four best stretches this season just one team out of 26 scored 100 points! Contrast that with the six times they have had multiple game losing streaks this season, and they allowed 100+ in six of the 15 games. They are now the team with the positive mental mindset, as well as the better team, and we will back them in what should be another big win.

Game: New Orleans at Toronto (6:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 198.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

New Orleans games have been going OVER while Toronto's UNDER. What will give here? We think Tornto's style of play (6-1 UNDER last seven) will prevail. They have been playing inspired defense, holding their last five opponents to an average of 86 ppg on 40.2% shooting. That includes a game against high-flying Denver in which the Nuggets scored just 109. New Orleans has shown a propensity to focus on defense when looking for revenge as they are 23-10 UNDER this season revenging a loss. New Orleans recently put up 114 vs. Indiana but they also put up just 90 vs. Houston and 92 vs Boston. We like this one, given how the Raptors are playing, to go UNDER the total.

Game: New Orleans at Toronto (6:05 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on First Half UNDER 99.5 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

We also like the first-half UNDER. New Orleans is 24-11 UNDER in the first half after an OVER this season. They are also 21-10 UNDER in the first half when seeking revenge. Toronto is 12-4 UNDER in the first half this season after failing to cover the spread in 5+ of their last seven games. Byron Scott-coached teams are 60-34 UNDER in the first half when instilled as a road favorite.

Results: 1-2
