Today's NBA Basketball Picks:

Game: New York Knicks at New Jersey (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on New Jersey -5.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

We said it last time out when we faded the Knicks. They are a bad team, but now a bad team that has packed it in! Evidence shines brightly as the Knicks have fallen behind in the first quarter of virtually every game, and has covered just once this month through 11 games. The Nets have something to play for in terms of the playoffs, but they also will be playing with triple revenge. The Nets are finally playing superb vs. weaker competition. They are beating losing teams at home. After a run of 2-6 vs teams with losing records at home, the Nets haven't lost to one since mid January. This has the makings of a blowout, and we will ride the Nets to grab one here.

The Suns have made the Shaq naysayers backtrack. After starting 3-6 with the Diesel, they have no reeled off seven in a row. They'll try to exact revenge for a 111-81 beatdown at the hands of the Pistons in Shaq's third game with his new club. They won't get it. Sure, this game will be closer. But, this game is in Detroit and if there's a team that can slow down the Suns, it's this team. Detroit will be bringing it as they look to avoid losing three straight. Phoenix has looked impressive but we need to temper the enthusiasm by the fact five of their eight wins have come against absolute cupcakes and/or teams that have no defense (Memphis, Golden State, Sacramento and Seattle). Detroit has held nine of their last eleven opponents under triple-digits. The two games they allowed 100+ they won handily. This is a good matchup for Detroit as theya re 23-9 ATS this season vs. teams that hoist up 18+ three pointers per game. They are also perfect this season (7-0) in games with a total posted at 200+. Finally, they are 7-0 ATS this season at home off a loss.

The Celtics come home off a grueling road trip, but they have gone 14-4 coming home off a road game and it has been over two months since they lost to a team at .500 or less. Philadelphia has been playing good basketball, going 17-5 over their last 22 games. It isn't the wins that stand out however, it is the losses. The last four have all been to winning teams, and they have all been one-sided games, including a 14 point loss at home to Boston,. They were hot going into that one as well (12-3 over their last 15). As good as they have played, the resume on the road vs the .500+ teams still reads 4-14. The Celtics have won all three vs the Sixers by double-digits and tonight will be the 4th. We also like the UNDER here as Boston clamps down hard at home. They are off a loss which we think will deliver more focus on defense. They have held opponents to just 88.2 per game at home this season. Under Doc Rivers, this team is 62-47 UNDER as a home favorite and 30-17 UNDER at home after a non-conference game. We like the Celtics to put the screws to the Sixers and win by double-digits in a low-scoring game.

We are also going to jump on the UNDER in the first half in this one. Boston is holding opponents in this building to 42.8 first-half points. Overall they are 41-28 UNDER in the first half this season including 16-6 UNDER when the total is between 95 and 100. They are also 20-10 UNDER in the first half after going OVER the total in their previous game.

Denver struggles against good teams and teams that play defense. But, against the league's worst, they roll. Over the past month, they have delivered wins against Seattle by 42 and 52 and over this Memphis team by 22. They'll have trouble in the playoffs but should continue to demolish the league's worst teams. Memphis, at 18-51, is one of those teams. They are 13-22 at home, allowing 106 ppg. Denver is averaging 127 per game on offense their last five. The Nuggets defense is bad but their offense is playing so well it doesn't matter. Memphis is 11-24 ATS this season vs. winning opponents (3-11 their last 14). They have lost seven straight ATS at home vs. good shooting teams (those hitting 46%+ from the field). Denver to score early and often and roll here.
