Basketball Pick - March 23, 2008
We went 4-2 yesterday for our 11th winning day out of the last fifteen. We are up 73.5 units, hitting 68% on our last 69 picks. Today we have two picks...
Today's NBA Basketball Picks:
Game: San Antonio at Dallas (1:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Dallas -3.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
Dallas has lost two straight and can't afford to lose a third in a row here. They ran into the freight train called the Boston Celtics in their last game, losing by 4, despite a good game by Nowitzki and Howard. The Mavs are now in the 7th spot in the West just 1.5 games ahead of Golden State. They are now at serious risk of actually missing the playoffs, or having to face the #1 seed. The pressure is on, and we think they respond at home here. San Antonio is 28-6 at home but just 18-17 on the road, scoring 93.9 per game. Dallas' offense should be able to have enough success here to pull away. The Spurs are just 13-22 ATS away from home this year including are a horrible 1-9 ATS makr as a road dog of 6 or fewer points! Also mixed in there is a 3-11 ATS mark after two straight wins. Mavs in this one.
Game: Golden State at Los Angeles Lakers (9:30 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Los Angeles Lakers -6.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The Lakers have (re)adjusted to life without Pau. They have won three straight with Gasol out of the lineup. They have averaged 113 per game over that stretch, posting impressive upset wins over Dallas and Utah and beating down Seattle by 25 points. Kobe is licking his lips as over their last five games, the Warriors have lost three of five (going 1-4 ATS), giving up 112.2 ppg in the process. Golden State has allowed opponents to get 9 full points per game more than their season average. If that happens today, the Lakers could reach the 120s. LA has been particularly potent this year vs. division opponents, going 8-3 SU and 9-2 ATS, scoring 116 per game. They have no fear of Golden State's up-tempo run and gun style. LA is an incredible 17-4 ATS this year vs. such teams (those averaging 83+ shots per game). THey are also 12-1 ATS vs. poor rebounding teams like GS (those getting outrebounded by 3+ per game). Finally, they are 13-1 ATS in their last fourteen games vs. poor defenses (those allowing 100+ per game). This will be a track-meet and LA wins and covers in those games.
