Today's NBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Chicago at Miami (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Miami -5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)

The Miami Heat have something few teams have, and that is a top five player that has elevated his level of play recently. Dwayne Wade is playing like a player possessed of late. In his last eight games he is averaging 36.4 points per game, and has topped the 40-point mark four times. Miami has been a tough team at home where they are 21-11, but that mark extends to 15-3 against teams with losing records on the season. The Bulls have played better of late, but haven't been able to handle Miami, losing their first two straight-up and ATS. The Bulls have failed to cover in each of their last four on the road, and with Wade seemingly willing the Heat on to victory, I have to go with Miami here.

The Detroit Pistons have not had the year that they were expected to have. Their letdown is a product of an offense that is amongst the worst in the league. But, they can still defend with the best of them as their games against the top 10 teams in points allowed have gone 10-2 to the UNDER. Since Iverson left, this team has gone back to Detroit basketball as they have held their last five opponents to an average of just 90.6 ppg. The last two seasons, the Pistons are 44-30 UNDER as a home favorite and 9-1 UNDER vs. elite teams (those outscoring opponents by 6+ ppg). I like the UNDER here.

The Nuggets are just 3-7 in their last 10 games, and on the surface look like a fading team. A closer look shows that six of the seven losses were on the road, and the home loss was to Boston. The fact is the Nuggets are 14-3 in their last 17 home games. Houston's Achilles heel has been playing on the road as they sport just a 14-17 mark on the season. They are becoming unbeatable at home where they have won 12 straight, but the road is a completely different story. They are just 4-11 on the road in their last 15 games and that goes back to before Christmas. The Nuggets are playing their third game in four nights - usually the death knell for teams in the NBA, but the Nuggets have thrived to a 21-9 ATS mark in this situation, and I'll lay the points and go with the Nuggets here.

I pointed out a lot of reasons why I like the Nuggets in this one laying the points. It certainly stands to reason that I would like them straight-up as well. The Rockets are just 2-7 SU in their last nine on the road against teams with a winning percentage of .600+, and are not getting it done on the road in the second half of the season. I'll also take Denver on the moneyline here.
