Nbapicks - March 01, 2010

We were blanked on the NBA hardwood last night, for that we apologize. Today we look to build some momentum with a pair of premium NBA picks including a 4-unit selection.

Today's NBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Portland at Memphis (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Game Total OVER 195 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6)

The Portland Trailblazers were off to a good start but had to make due with numerous injuries, and have fallen off. It has begun to show up on the defensive end. Portland, in their first 11 games on the road vs. a winning team, held those teams to 96.3 points per game. They have since faced seven winning teams, and have allowed them 105 ppg. That is a full 9 ppg worse then where this team was on the road vs. good teams. Memphis has not done a good job at home defending, allowing 101+ on average in their last seven home games. The Portland defensive woes have led to an 8-2 mark to the OVER in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning record. Memphis has been very offensive after a big win by 10 or more, playing 7-2 to the OVER in their last nine. I'll play this one OVER the total.
Game: San Antonio at New Orleans (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on New Orleans +3 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
Chris Paul definitely means a lot to this New Orleans Hornets team, but the oddsmakers have over-estimated just how much. The Hornets have played nine games at home without Paul in the lineup as a home dog, and have a 6-3 ATS mark. More importantly, have won five of those outright! Overall, the Hornets are 14-7-1 ATS without Paul in the lineup, so we truly have an over consideration by the oddsmakers here. The Spurs are an aging team, and have been quite less effective playing consecutive nights at just 3-6 ATS. Plus a team that scores over 100 per game is diminished to 91.6 ppg with no rest. The Spurs are just 2-8 ATS after allowing 100 or more, while the Hornets are feasting as home dogs at 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29. The home team has covered 12 of the last 15 in this series, so I like New Orleans here.

Results: 1-1

This number on the total here is simply too high. The Orlando Magic have allowed just two teams in their last 15 games to reach the 100 point mark. Those 15 teams saw 40% of them not get out of the 80...

The Cavaliers have lost three in a row and another loss could lead to panic. Luckily for them they have a home game against the Hornets. The Hornets average triple-digits on the year both at home and ...
