Today's NBA Basketball Picks:
Game: Phoenix at San Antonio (1:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on Game Total UNDER 207 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6)
The Suns are coming on having won 11 of their last 13 games. The problem for them was that they had a handful of cupcakes in there. This will be a still test this afternoon as they face a Spurs team that is in need of a win and should be playing hard. The Spurs have lost three of their last four including stinkers to Detroit and Houston. I am counting on the Spurs defense here to keep this game UNDER this high total. San Antonio has a consistent defense that holds opponents 4 points per game on average under their normal scoring output. If they can do that here, they can keep Phoenix to around 100 points and the game should then go UNDER the total. When facing good three-point shooting teams (those shooting 36%+ from beyond the arc), the Suns are 14-5 UNDER this season. The Spurs are an UNDER team overall, especially at home, and especially in big games (national TV). I like this one to go UNDER.

Yes, both of these teams can score, and Toronto's defense is weak. But, there's another defense in this game. The Thunder's defense is very good, allowing just 95.9 per game (95.1 at home). This total is set too high. Dating back to last season, the Thunder are 42-27 UNDER at home. Under head coach Scott Brooks, Oklahoma City is 23-10 UNDER at home after a game in which they covered the spread.
Game: Miami at Orlando (7:05 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on Game Total OVER 185.5 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6)
Wade is out again and Miami has struggled to score without him. However, after several games without a star, teams adjust. This low total is an overreaction to the 71 points scored by the Heat last game. Orlando has averaged 104 per game here at home so reaching the mid 180s is not asking a lot for this game. When these teams met twice earlier this season, the average score as 194 points. With the over-reaction value we are getting, I like this one to go OVER.
