Basketball Picks - February 25, 2009

On the NBA hardwood last night, we nailed three of our four picks to grab another +2.8 units.  Our three month NBA run is now up to 58%, 179-131 (+102 units). Tonight we have five premium plays, including a one 4 unit selection.

Today's NBA Basketball Picks:

Game: Memphis at Indiana (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total OVER 209 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)

Indiana loves to push the ball up and down the court and when they get against the weaker or sub-.500 team, they are able to impose that will as nine of their last 12 vs that type of team have gone over the total. Memphis has been much more offensive vs the weaker sub-.500 teams themselves as in their last ten against them they have gone over the total in eight of them. The Pacers have been an over machine vs Western Conference teams and have produced a 23-6-2 mark to the over in their last 31 vs the West. These teams have lit up the scoreboard in their recent meetings against each other as well, going over in five of the last six and I like this one to go OVER the total.

Game: Orlando at New York Knicks (7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 4 units on New York Knicks +2.5 (-110) (risk 4 to win 3.6)
The New York Knicks have served there backers well in this role as they are now 7-3 ATS in their last ten as a home dog vs teams with a winning record on the season. That includes 5-3 SU in their last eight. The Magic simply haven't been playing well lately. It took them 41 games to reach the eight loss mark, but now they have lost seven in just 15 games. The road has been particularly tough where they are just 2-4 in their last six. The Knicks are a very profitable 19-9 ATS in their last 28 as a dog overall and they are catching the Magic at the right time. I'll go with the Knicks here.

Game: Portland at San Antonio (8:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on San Antonio -140 (moneyline) (risk 3 to win 2.1)
Pick: 3 units on Game Total UNDER 181 -110 (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The Trailblazers at 23-5 have proven they can play with anyone at home, but when taking to the road it becomes a much more difficult task, one they haven't been so effective in at 12-16. That mark gets worse against the good teams as they are just 2-9 SU in their last 11 vs .500+ teams on the road. They lost in Houston last night and the task gets tougher tonight as San Antonio has been 17-3 at home in their last 20 games. The Blazers are also just 5-12 ATS in their last 17 road games, while the Spurs are a perfect 7-0 ATS in the last seven they have played against .500+ teams. Spurs get it done at home. I also like the UNDER here as neither one of these teams like to push the ball and Portland is 19-9 to the UNDER when playing on the road vs a team with a winning record in their last 28 and the Spurs are 7-3 to the under in their last ten with zero days rest.

Game: Atlanta at Denver (9:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Atlanta +8 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The Denver offense is suddenly out of sync. After going all of last season, and most of this season, without ever having a game where they scored under 80 points, they have suddenly had two in their last six. They have also now had five of their last seven games where they have failed to score 100 points, but during this same stretch they have averaged giving up 100+. The Hawks aren't going to impress anyone with their road record, but they are over .500 ATS on the road and get a team tonight that is struggling. Hawks have been getting it done when they are posted as a dog of 5-10.5 points as they are 12-4 ATS in their last 16. The Hawks have had Denver's number as they are 6-2 ATS in their last eight at Denver and 8-3 ATS in the last 11 matchups overall. Good place for a live dog and I'm on the Hawks here.

Results: 2-3
