Nba Basketball Picks - April 28, 2009
We posted another 3-0 night on the NBA hardwood, good for +10.3 units! Last night's sweep lifted us to 261-208 since mid-November (+98.8 units). During the month of April, we are hitting nearly 60% at 40-30 for +25.7 units. Three more premium picks today including a 4-unit selection.

Game: Chicago at Boston (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: 3 units on Boston -7.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
The Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls have locked horns in an exciting series. Tonight, the teams return to Boston tied at two games apiece, and are ready to tip-off a pivotal game five at the Garden tonight. There is a major problem for the Bulls, who will likely be without the services of Ben Gordon, who tweaked a hamstring in game four. That will be a serious blow for the Bulls even if he suits up and plays. The explosiveness and effectiveness is surely going to be diminished. Gordon did not miss a game this season, but is the Bulls go-to guy in the playoffs as he has netted 24.5 points per game. Those points won't be easy to replace, and neither will his minutes. The Bulls rely on just seven players for the most part, and Gordon’s absence would reduce them to six. There is a precursor to the Bulls without Gordon who missed 10 games a year ago. The Bulls struggled on offense scoring just 90.8 ppg and had games of 77, 67, and 77 in his absence. I look for Boston to come away with a convincing home win here.
Game: Philadelphia at Orlando (7:35 PM Eastern)Pick: 4 units on First Half UNDER 96 -110 (risk 4 to win 3.6)
The Philadelphia 76ers have given the Magic all that they can handle and are even in the series through four games. This becomes a huge game for both teams, and the stamp to start here should be defense. This series has become more defensive as it has moved along, culminating in an 84-81 wrestling match in game four. I expect much of the same in game five, with each team trying to put the defensive clamps on the other. Not only does the game indicate a defensive battle, but there are three systems live for this one that show the first half going UNDER at 52-17, 29-8, and 40-12, and I'll play this one to go UNDER the first half total.
Game: Houston at Portland (10:00 PM Eastern)Pick: 3 units on Portland -5.5 (-110) (risk 3 to win 2.7)
There is an old adage in sports wagering that says, "The team in need is the team indeed." That certainly applies to the Blazers, who no longer have a margin for error down three games to one in their series vs. the Rockets. The good news is that the Blazers have not been a good road team all season, and Houston has been "Cleveland-like" at home as they are now 20-2 over their last 22 on home hardwood. The good news part of that is Portland played them right to the wire in both games, losing by a single point in game four, and three points in game three. One possession separated these teams. The Blazers now come home, and have had similar success on the season at home, and I would expect their best game to be in game five. The Blazers are now back in the favorite role where they are 12-4 ATS in their last 16, and I look for them to make a series of this and win tonight.
